I got this northern sea oats grass because it looks like tiny bamboo. I thought it could be a good backdrop to foliage and flowering plants in a five gallon pot. It really needed to be planted in a garden like fountain grass or miscanthus to reach its potential. It was an impulse buy in spring.

Question for cat owners Hello! I’m new to plants and have been building my collection for about a month. I have a cat so I’m extremely strict about only having cat safe plants in my house, but my all time favourite plants are pothos and philodendrons and I’d just love to be able to have some! I was wondering if any of you guys have non safe plants, but just keep them out of reach of your cats? I know logically you would probably read this and think ā€œwell obviously that’s fine if they’re out of reachā€ but my only worry is I know some plants are so toxic that even getting the pollen on the cats fur can cause them serious problems, so I’d be worried about handling the plant and then even my cat brushing past my clothes or skin after handling might be dangerous for them! Am I overthinking this and being OTT or am I right to just strictly have only cat safe plants in my house? Sorry if this is a dumb question I have OCD so I tend to overthink and obsess over things that probably don’t matter lol. I would always put my cat baby first so I just want to know what other people do!

I’m so upset! I bought a redwood bonsai at sears. It was discounted but still over $100. This poor baby arrived. He’s technically not even a bonsai; just a sapling with the apex chopped off, which is really bad for the tree. He was wilted and packed so poorly that the little foliage he had was mostly broken off by the time he got here. I’ve written to their customer service to complain about the quality of the tree and the way they treated it, but I don’t want to send it back because I know they’ll just throw it out. Am I weird? 😶 And anyone have any experience with redwoods? I’m thinking he’ll be pretty much like my juniper, but any additional tips are very much appreciated! šŸ™

Can someone help me out with this plant? I have no idea what it is. I just picked it up off the grocery store clearance rack for $.99. I tried my identifying plants app, LeafSnap, but no luck, and it’s usually really accurate.

Hey. I’m in South Jersey and I don’t do Facebook. Does anyone know of any plant groups/swaps by any chance? I’ve got quite a few plants that I’d love to pass on that I have multiples of or that I’m not in love with anymore. I’m not interested in the fiasco of selling or shipping. Just want them to go to a loving home. I’m so maxed out on space and I want to be free to buy more😁

So I have had this plant for almost a week. I was given the plant in a big pot with an aloe and a few Christmas cacti pieces as a gift. The soil was very very dry, so dry it was crumbling to the touch. I repotted as you can see. After I repotted, on Sunday, I gave it a good drink. The two leaves closest to the base are curling and I can’t figure out why. The left leaf closest to the base has a really bad brown spot that was already there, plus its stem is starting to yellow. Do you guys know why the two leaves are curling? All other leaves seem healthy. Not visible in the picture, but there is new growth.

When do I repot? - just got this tissue culture Thai and I know how fussy they are. Any tips on making sure it grows big and strong? When to repot mainly, it’s such a baby. Also in the picture it’s in a 2 inch pot

Fairy Castle Cactus- a coworker gave me this for Christmas years ago. Clearly it’s growing well. However, this plant bores me. I can’t visually see the new growth…it’s just there. I don’t get excited about it. I did recently learn how to propagate this one and I’m making one for a friend that is a fellow plant lover. I’ve never seen it bloom. Anyone else have one of these and does it bring you joy. I want to love this one…but 🄓🫣.

Does she look okay? I bought her two days ago and I’ve never owned a prayer plant before, I’ve heard they’re very hard to keep alive so just trying to do my research! I know they naturally droop throughout the day but I’m not sure how to tell the difference between normal ā€œnot prayingā€ vs dying! She is moist but not soggy and I am trying not to overwater her. I know prayers need high humidity which I don’t have in my home so every now and then I will keep her in my bathroom for a few hours when I have a bath so she can take in some moisture between watering

Does anyone know what this plant is? I wanted to buy it in sainsburys but they had no information as to what the plant is, and I only buy plants if I can research about them to make sure they are safe around cats! Thanks in advance šŸ’—

Is there a function in the Planta app that calculates the amount of water needed for each plant? Not just how often to water. I know my other app PlantIn can calculate the much water is needed based on type of llant, pot size, soil type, light etc.
