My mom shared this poem with me written by my great great aunt; a love of plants and flowers runs in the family 💚 To a Maidenhair Fern Far from the drip, drip of spring water Seeping into the mat of leaf mold about your feet, Do you resent the lapse of years Since you green in lush mosaic Against the cold grey stones of old St. Augustine? I found you there, my maidenhair, at Fort Marian I love you; brought you captive to the North. You grow for me in the light of my bay window Light mellowed by sheer curtains Gives a translucence to your scalloped leaves, which hand on fragile, ebony stems. You live in a (unreadable) I give you cool drinks, you love them. It reminds you of the springs in your early Florida home. You love damp leaf mold too, In which your roots mat and sent up tiny fiddlebows which unfold into tender (unreadable) of green. You love one opal immmoveable So you may spread out your lacy leaves. You resent caresses I know all your eccentrenticies, my maiden-hair, We have been lovers so long You have been with me in happiness; in tears. I have torn and divided you; given you to strangers and friends. But neglected you - never! I would not like life apart from you. W.M. P. ‘50

Update, they're alive and it appears the pests are gone after treatment.
Well, I’ve just encountered my first infestation. I have what I believe are spider mites on my Lucky Lady plant. I put on some cotton gloves, wet them, then wiped down each leaf, trying to physically destroy as many as possible. Then I sprayed it thoroughly with a 50/50 alcohol water solution. I’m getting some neem oil today. Any other ideas or recommendations?
Repotting- why does the planter app this week say almost every plant in my collection needs to be repotted? Is it the time of year or is it just some process in the app? What’s realistic for repotting?
best way to spend a birthday is buying plants from the local nursery 💚🌱
So tiny and cute!!!!! I love my Venus flytrap so much more now!
My new plant baybeez!! I 💚 them!! I’ve been really wanting a princess plant and a money tree and now I have them!!
All my Wet Plants have been treated with cinnamon and diluted soap water. I hope they do alright with it. Fingers crossed.
Looking for plant recommendations! I'm in an apartment in zone 7a (Southern New Jersey). I can't plant things in the ground, so I want to have a cute little container garden this year. I love having plants on my porch but honestly I forget to water them and then I feel bad that they're not doing well. So! I need all your best recommendation for extremely drought tolerant plants for zone 7a that will do well in planters, especially if they are beginner friendly
Thrive Tuesday! Show us your happiest plant, the one bursting with new leaves, blooms, or just pure joy. 💚
Hey guys! I’m a new plant mom rediscovering my love for nurturing plants. I had ordered a bunch of them without knowing much through plantsome, mainly making sure they were non toxic as I have cats. It’s been nearly a month I think and all my plants seem to be doing well with new growth except for this one. It arrived with some cold damage and one torn leaf. I read it’s a tricky one to tend to and I’m glad it’s not dying on me yet but it’s also not looking bright or showing signs of new growth. I make sure it gets good indirect light and watered as the app suggests. Any suggestions or tips to care for this one and what it might need.
Is anyone else offended by the ads for Premium when you snap a pic of your plant and it immediately says, "Your plant doesnt look well. Dr Planta can help!" Like y'all, my plant doesn't look well bc I just pruned it nearly to the ground bc it's pruning season 😭 gimme a break! (P. S. I'm head over heels for Planta. Don't interpret this as a complaint about the app! I just wanted to know if anyone else shares this offense 😅)
Short story I find really funny, but nobody else probably does... Me to the jalapeño plant i grew outside in Florida: give me jalapeños! Jalapeño plant: 🫡 Jalapeño plant: 😂🫑 Me: 😋 JP: 😂 🫑🫑🫑🫑 Me: hold on... JP: 🤣🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑x999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999 Me: No wait Me: that's too many jalapeños! JP: 🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑 Me: buddy, I love you, but what do you want me to do with all this, I'll be on the toilet for weeks! Me, panicking: Merry Christmas everybody, I grew these just for you! *Gives a bag of jalapeños to every person in my quite large family* Jalapeño plant, the next autumn: 🫑🫑🫑 Me: Oh shit. Poseidon: 🌀☁️🌧️🌪️ yw And so came an end to my first (and only) jalapeño plant
What do you do with all the food from your garden? Fresh-leaf tea and mint juleps will be made, but as far as the basil goes it will likely be dried or made into pesto because wow that's a lot of basil. That's okay, one Christmas all the gifts to my family were just bags of jalapeños. Nobody needs as many jalapeños as I got off that plant. I loved him, though he unfortunately got knocked down by a hurricane.

Anyone here a mycologist? I found this mould/fungus growing on my rabbits foot fern and I'm curious to know what It is. I wanna say possibly a type of penicillium. I'm gonna get it off and repot in something better ventillated, water less, and keep the fan on in hopes I can save him. I'm worried about my boy...he's my favorite plant and one of the longest I've had so far.
