My first orchid. I pass them by at the grocery but today I got trapped. I’m hoping it stays small. I love the big sweeping sprays of flowers but I just don’t have the right sort of place for one. I need to read up! I know nothing!
My mom passed away a week ago, we got these orchids. I have never had to deal with any kind of plants but I really want to take care of this one. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Dendrobium latouriate ‘Green flash’ I find green flowers fascinating. It’s a bonus that the lip is gorgeous deep wine color.
Does anyone know what kind of oncidium this is? (I believe it’s an oncidium)
I am questioning whether or not my orchid is getting enough light… The plant seems healthy, but I only have one north east facing window in my room. And there are cloudy days where it doesn’t receive a lot of light. Should I move it elsewhere? Should I buy a grow lamp?

Hi guys I have been trying to get phaelanopsis orchids to survive with me but I’ve tried many methods and none seem to work: Watering: 1. From below for 20 mins then drain fully 2. Water with drip watered in bottle 3. Soak moss and leave over roots then remove after 10 mins 4. Full glass container with water leave for 20 mins then invert and fully drain. Repeat every 2 - 3 weeks. Fertiliser: 1. Use pre made orchid feed 1 per month 2. Use crushed eggshell in media for calcium 3. Use tea water 4. Use no fertiliser and allow to grow naturally. Media: 1. Grow on wood branch base with bits of moss and tied on. 2. Grown in clear plastic with orchid media 3. Grown in glass containers lined with dry sphagnum moss / slightly moist green moss and orchid media as main filler. 3. Grown in fluvial strata 4. Grown in just water 5. Grown in terrarium - open and closed in orchid media and a bit of sphagnum moss. I have tried almost everything and no matter what I try they just seem to die. I followed Kew Gardens head orchid keepers advise and still no luck . I’m starting to believe orchids are spiked with fungus so they die in order that people keep buying them . Please help I love orchids 😟😣
Hey! I just recently removed a leaf from my orchid, because it was not receiving enough light, so it turned yellow. Since then I have been careful to provide more light to the whole plant. ❤️🩹 That being said, I recently noticed some browning around the flower spike… is this normal? What does it mean? Thank you!
First bloom on this on this Paphiopedilum. It’s my only purple/wine colored one, and I wasn’t able to find images of this particular cross, so I wasn’t even sure what it would look like. I think it’s time to repot my oncidium Twinkle now that it’s done blooming. It’s been in a 4” square nursery pot since I purchased the plant earlier this year. It seems to be growing entirely in moss. Should I remove some of the moss and replace with a little orchid bark and perlite mix? I don’t want to shock the plant but wonder if I should slowly transition it to orchid bark. Should I gently tease the roots apart to encourage new growth? BTW, the accordion leaf was like that when I purchased the plant and so far no new growth are like that. Thank you in advance for your advice.
Paphiopedilum spicedrianum Blooming a little early this year. But I’m not complaining.
Hi! I have an orchid I got not too long ago (probably 2-3 months) that I just want to make sure I’m doing the right things for! I’m not sure what type it is, (it’s flowers were white when it had them if that helps any) some of its roots seem to have turned brown and a little crispy but I’m terrified of over watering so I’ve just let it be. It had 2 stems with flowers when I got it but after a long while they died so I just cut the stems so it would hopefully bloom again! Only one stem survived but I’ll take it. I haven’t repotted it but I’m honestly really afraid of it, orchids just seem so intimidating! I would be more than happy to answer any questions and any and all advice is greatly appreciated!
My dendroium Sharry Baby’s roots are growing well, which is great, but some of them are growing out of the holes in the pots. They turn brown at the tips and then look like they dry or die. Should I be concerned? The roots will have to be cut when it’s time to repot. Media is wet because I just finished watering.
Ionocidium cv. Popcorn 'Highlands' This one just finished blooming. The flowers start out a vibrant yellow and fade to a soft pink within a week. Last year they were almost white. It kinda reminds me of a mutabilis rose.
First time I've had this on any of my orchids. Any idea what the white stuff is? Thank you!

I am new to orchids as I always thought they where so hard to care for anyways I have a beautiful white/green one that has flowered lovely but as of the past few days all her flowers have been falling off but her roots are still nice and green is this normal for the plant to do or is their anything I need to change :)

Hi plant friends. My Maudiae paph has dropped its bloom but the flower stalk is still ridged. It was in bloom since mid-June! Should I cut the stalk or wait for it to dry up? There’s a couple of new fans growing. Should I unpot the plant to check roots or leave it alone? I potted it in new orchid bark mix in mid-April. Thanks for your advice and input.
