First time I've had this on any of my orchids. Any idea what the white stuff is? Thank you!

    That's root rot. To treat it, repot and assess the roots. Keep any that are green or silvery like those healthy short ones at the top. Cut away any squishy roots (rotted or old and dead) and any dry crispy tan ones (dead). It looks like you may have no healthy roots beneath the soil, and if that's the cade you can cut the entire stem right below the healthy section. (Use sterilized cutters for this.) Once the dead and diseased roots are gone, treat the live roots with hydrogen peroxide (spray, dip, or splash it on, just be generous with it.) Use a paper towel to wipe away any excess liquid at the crown (you don't want it getting wet in the crevices between the leaves.) Sterilize the old pot or use a different one of similar size. Use entirely fresh orchid bark, and make sure the crown sits high enough that it won't be splashed when you water it (since it has almost no roots to secure it, you can use a little wire over the lowest leaves to help it stay in place and remove that later when it's recovered.) Continue with regular care. You can retreat with hydrogen peroxide every 2-3 days as needed if the rot persists. It's already growing on the live roots, so it should recover in a few weeks to a month

    To be clear, you DO probably have root rot, but your plant has a substantial mold outbreak. Lots of root rotted orchids just get black or brown and mushy, no mold involvement. The outcome and treatments are very similar, but I’d just take extra care to sanitize the pot and check your bag of medium to make sure you don’t have spores in there. Otherwise you’ll repot and just run into the same problem.

      Hi Jen. I had never repotted this orchid. It was in a plug. I trimmed the bad roots and repotted using orchid mix in a new orchid pot. Fingers crossed it will be ok. Thank you for your reply ☺️
