My poor mangled blooms on my Cattleya that came with thrips. Showing the group mostly as an example of what these little sh!ts can do to new growth on orchids. I have treated this plant, as well as the few that are in its immediate vicinity with another group member’s recommended granules. I’ll repot when the blooms drop and then treat it again. I haven’t seen any pests for the last few days, but I’m keeping a close eye on it. Fingers crossed that one, we’re done with the thrips, and they didn’t spread to any other of my collection, and two, that she’s not so set back that I don’t see a rebloom for a few years. Sigh. Always learning.

My first orchid and it seems to be doing fine in its pure wood chunk orchid mix.

Does anyone know if this is a flower spike? The end is purplish, I thought it was a dead leaf or something and almost pinched it off 😭 it’s a tolumnia

I was gifted this orchid with absolutely zero knowledge or prior experience with orchids. Any tips/recommendations? I want to give her a good life 🥺 Should I change out the moss? Should I repot? I basically just need a little “orchids for dummies” rundown 😭

This is my Phalaenopsis “Chiada Fiona” #3. Potted in 12/21. I bought her last year from Cloud’s nursery as a NB and this it’s first blooming. It’s a very pretty magenta bloom, with a deep labellum which is white and tinged with yellow. I was surprised at the size of the blooms! These are the other 2 Phals I have in bloom at the moment. Maybe they will get smaller and more plentiful as it ages.

Update on my orchid that got smashed after a shelf fell on it- it’s growing a flower spike and still alive? I’m not quite sure how it’s managed to do that but I’m happy for it

I think I’m getting my first flower spike! This new growth seems rather “edged” and not like a cone so I’m crossing all my fingers. (And if it is I have NO IDEA how I did that… need to figure it out so I can do it to my other orchid too!)

My first polychilos phal, or summer bloomer if you prefer. Phalaenopsis speciosa ‘Purple mountain.’ It has 4 gorgeous flower spikes, most with tiny buds, but this one bloomed today. Just what I needed while I deal with the thrips I found on a different new acquisition. 🙄

Well, I knew it would happen eventually. One of the new orchids I brought home has what I’m pretty certain are the dreaded thrips. I have done some research, but wondered if anyone had any practical, hands on experience with what actually worked for them. Thank you in advance!

My orchid has shed all flowers. It has recently got a new leaf also. It has 3 nodes on the main stem. But between the 3rd node & the top of the stem it's turning yellow. Is this normal or does it need a cut? I am confused a bit. Please advise.

I meant to post this a while ago. This is Haraella retrocallus. The buds were on it when I received it, so I make no claim to flowering it. In fact, I mounted it on the slab of cork Upside Down😆. This is a beautiful miniature orchid and has a sweet lemony scent. I hope it forgives my embarrassing ‘faux pas.’ (Photo 3) It kinda looks like a “maroon beetle” moving into the blossom.

Hello all! Does this mean it’s already ran its course and they are all going to fall off? Or what am I doing wrong 😭 please help.

Doritaenopsis Liu’s Cute Berry ‘Orch. House’ Just as the name says, this is a cute little flower. I love the variety of color, from white to lavender to magenta, with a dot of yellow. This plant is a perfect example of not watering on a schedule. Even though it’s in the same kind of pot, same size pot and same media as its windowsill brethren, it needs water less frequently than the others.

I rescued an orchid today, its my first ever orchid. I do not really know what to do. The substrate was decomposed and soggy, rotting the roots a bit so I chopped the dead roots off and repotted it into mostly bark with charcoal and sphagnum. I didn’t water the substrate but i soaked the roots. Didn’t actually see any air roots, I assume the dryness of safeway got to it. Had 4 sets of leaves i trimmed the bottom off, they were completely yellow. The next 2 are in the process of yellowing off. What can I do for her??? Is this setup fine?? HELP!!! I’ve had this Vanda for two years and it has flowered 3 times for me. However, in the last few days I am seeing the leaves brown on one side of the plant near the base and it is starting to spread. What is it and how do I stop it?!?
