My poor mangled blooms on my Cattleya that came with thrips. Showing the group mostly as an example of what these little sh!ts can do to new growth on orchids. I have treated this plant, as well as the few that are in its immediate vicinity with another group member’s recommended granules. I’ll repot when the blooms drop and then treat it again. I haven’t seen any pests for the last few days, but I’m keeping a close eye on it. Fingers crossed that one, we’re done with the thrips, and they didn’t spread to any other of my collection, and two, that she’s not so set back that I don’t see a rebloom for a few years. Sigh. Always learning.

That’s really unfortunate. Are you planning to leaving the flowers on?

I may- but at the first sign of a thrip I’m going to remove the whole flower spike. They did really seem to be confined to that area. There’s a new growth coming up and I haven’t seen a single one despite reading that they like any new tender growth.

I think you’re moving in the right direction. Actually, I’m taking notes so that I am prepared when it happens to me. Good luck!

I am hopeful but don’t want to be over confident. I also don’t want to go off the deep end and treat ALL my orchids with pesticide preemptively. 😬
