Hi! I recently got these two moth orchids that need rescuing from my mother in law and they are in really bad shape. One of them is growing a keiki! I haven’t gotten a chance to repot so I’m not sure if the roots have rotted or dried out. Any tips on how to get these back to life would be so helpful! Also this window gives them direct sunlight only after 4-5 pm, is that okay?

Check out my keiki. :)

Is this guy salvageable? Dropping yellow leaves and not really any roots 😕

So, I went away for a few days and the roots on this rhynchostylis caerulea completely shriveled.
I was hoping it would put out new roots into the mix, but it looks like it’s putting out a new root between the leaves! It’s hard to see in the picture but if you look right next to the stem on the left, you’ll see it sliding out right in the crease of the second leaf from the top!
Any advice here? If it insists on putting out roots nowhere near the bark, it’s gonna be hard to keep it happy!

I wrote in previously about this poor cymbidium sinense, which was suffering from…something: cat teeth, dryness, who knew. After listening to your wise counsel, here’s what I did:
- I cut the most frayed leaves and dusted the cut with cinnamon.
- I bought bitter apple spray
- I put the pot on a sheet of tin foil
This way, I am *mostly* sure the cat will keep off it at least for now. If the leaves stay okay, then the cat was the problem and I know vigilance is the solution. If they start to brown and split again where I cut them, I’ll know the problem is cultural and I’ll try to deal with that!
I really adore this orchid and I am desperate to save it!

I had obtained a Bulbophyllum and started noticing about a month ago that portions of a leaf or two had elevated off the soil with the roots exposed, and the body of the bulb formed a black sheath-like structure. Emerging from each of them is a green shoot. What am I seeing?

Is that a possible flower spike? 😟 I’ve yet to get this den phal type to bloom so I’m not sure

My dancing lady orchid is blooming! 😍

Second time it’s bloomed this year. Not too bad for a hardware store acquisition.

Hi everyone 🪴 I’m very new to plants and was gifted a moth orchid a few months ago. I’m noticing the yellow/orange discolouration - I think on the stem? And the flowers falling off. Does this mean it’s finished blooming or is it sick?

Paph. Niveum is in bloom. The flower is smaller this time for some reason. The new growth it spiked from is also smaller. Maybe I didn’t water it often enough. No fertilizer this year either since I was a little too heavy handed with it previously.

Hello…am a bit new to the orchid world. I have about 25 orchids that are indoors. I just kept buying different kinds and stopped. Some of my orchids have brown spots on its leaves. Others have mealybugs. (had to look it up) Any suggestions on how to cure my orchids?

This is an update on my triple spiked rescue I got several weeks ago. I removed the spikes (though I hated doing it with the gorgeous flowers it had) and got rid of all of the mushy and rotted roots.
It appears to have two very small new roots and the roots that weren’t removed are well hydrated and green but the leaves just aren’t looking any better. They are still paper thin and have no structure to them. Am I deluding myself that this little guy is able to be rescued? Will the leaves ever plump up and regain any kind of structure or do I just wait and hope new healthy leaves grow in and replace them? So far I have no hint of new foliage growth just two 1 cm roots with growth ends.

Does it harm my orchid to leave this root alone and just let it grow out or should I try to repot and put it back in?

Looking for some help. My cat was nibbling on the leaves of my cymbidium sinense, but now I wonder if the damage isn’t her fault. Even the tips of the leaves she hasn’t nibbled are brown, and I’ve been misting with vinegar-enhanced water to deter her. Some details:
- bought in April
- planted in bark with perlite and topped with moss
- water maybe 2x/week per Planta
- pot is unglazed ceramic
- lots of light
Am I overwatering? Too much light? Is my bad girl still nibbling when I’m not looking?

Hello! I’m looking for advice. This is my first orchid and the first pic is from April of 2024 and the last two are today. After all the blooms fell off I cut back the stem and now the stem is starting to brown where I cut it. I did use sanitized scissors to cut the stem. It has recently started the grow new leaves but I just wanted some opinions on what to do about the stem, do I leave it brown or do I have to trim it down more?
Thank you in advance 🩷

Binosa Key Lime. Two directions of growth, both at least an inch or two bigger than previous growths, both with pretty little sheaths that look like they have the beginnings of buds there, (but they were blanks last year.) Keep your fingers crossed for blooms. The flowers only have a fragrance at night, and smell lemony and a little sharp. I’ve likened it to Lemon Pledge, the cleaning spray. 😂 I just love this one.

Is it my imagination or is the happy sap particularly abundant this year? I’m glad they’re happy but this is kinda out of control.

I’ve had this orchid for 4 months, how am I doing so far any tips? It seems pretty healthy. Some of the roots look a little brown.

New to orchids! Any tips and tricks to keep them happy?
So far I’ve checked the roots, planted it in orchid bark, and gave a good watering.
