Is this guy salvageable? Dropping yellow leaves and not really any roots 😕

There is a chance that it will survive
0 J'aimeYou should probably trim off the spikes, and try to keep the humidity around the plant high
0 J'aimeNormally, I would agree, but it looks as though the root rot has made its way into the bottom of the stem. The infection has already caused lower leaves to drop, so it’s pretty advanced. If you wanted to attempt saving it, you’ll absolutely need to cut the flower spikes immediately, so the plant can focus all its energy on root production and fighting the infection. You’ll also need to cut away the infected portion of the stem. Anything black and mushy on the bottom there. Pull away the yellowed leaf remains that were affected. If you see in the stem under there that you have an advancing issue, you’ll need to cut above that area. Treat the cut with peroxide. Add to a bed of damp sphagnum moss and hope for new roots.
2 J'aimeIt could take quite a while. In the meantime, your leaves will obviously start to look dehydrated. But until the entire stem withers off, there is still hope. Keep the sphagnum moss moist to promote root growth. Let us know how it goes!
1 j'aimeThank you!! The peroxide would you use direct or diluted? Also I’ve had this one hydroponic - would you recommend moving to the moss? Or hydro once the cuts callous?
0 J'aimePeroxide 3%, which is what is generally readily available in the U.S. If, however, yours is 6%, then just dilute by using 1 part water, 1 part peroxide. What do you use in your hydro set up? Leca? Other non organic media? Or was it in a straight up water culture? How long have you been growing it in this manner? I would stick to moss while you are trying to ENcourage root growth, but DIScourage any more bacterial or fungal infections. Maintaining a moist but airy environment would be ideal.
