When planting my props in soil after theyāve been growing in water, Iāve been watering frequently to keep moist. How long do I keep them moist vs letting them dry out in between?

I've been working on preserving a rare variegated english oak. The original tree was grafted, and has since reverted. I have several air layers in the works, and today i took this cutting. So far propagation has been very unsuccessful, but hopefully the new attempts will work out

I was wondering how to, or if I even should, try to cut off the taller section of this nerve plant and propagate it. Itās top heavy and relies on the little copper stake to stay upright. This poor plant had to suffer through my beginner mistakes but is doing great now. I donāt want to mess it up. What say you? Thanks in advance.
