Any advice on potting these beauties? They’ve been growing since June and I’m nervous.
Why?? Nothing has changed and it’s not over/under watered :/
I need help with my first Alocasia! I picked him up about two weeks ago, repotted about one week ago. He has a new leaf coming in but he’s already killed his first leaf to the point it fell off. I know that’s kind of what they do when growing new leaves to be able to get enough nutrients but he’s now almost killed a second leaf and almost halfway through the third. The biggest leaf also has a starting spot on it too! I fertilized him last watering. I hope I’m not killing him!
I’m so excited about my A. Macrorrhiza Camouflage!! He’s already unfurling a new leaf! Will the next leaf be as tall as the current tallest one? Just trying to plan space wise!
Good morning plant friends! Does anyone mix their own soil mix for their alocasias/monsteras? If so, what are your ratios? I have an alocasia dawn and a thai constellation and I need to repot. Thanks in advance!
Can I put my elephant ear alocasia in lecca? Or is that a bad idea? Need help badly
I had to repot my Alocasia Silver Dragon and found these corms. What is the best way to propagate these?
My question: Is the lighter green color on the right side from it not fully hardening yet?? The left one had the same color & eventually went away, this one just seems to be hanging on to it longer. I just want to make sure I’m not giving it too much light.
Hi all, I’m new to the Planta community and i wanted to ask if anyone has any experience with this type of alocasia. It was gifted to me and the person said it was a variegated alocasia dawn but I’d like to get everyone’s input. I tried adding it to my plant list but I couldn’t find it.
PLLLLSSS I got so excited when I saw this on my college campus!! It’s giving such strong Alocasia vibes but I’m also shocked it would be here? Anyone know what this is? 😂😂
Hey guys! So I purchased 2 Milo’s at Walmart tonight… they look good I didn’t see any signs of pests or diseases… got them home and something told me to check one of the new leaves that one was pushing out that hadnt totally unfurled. (One in middle of this pic) Of course I ripped it a bit opening it but I’m glad I did… the green gods must’ve been on my side telling me to check it, cause there were a lot of tiny clear bugs. They weren’t moving at all but I wiped them all off, rinsed that leaf with water, and sprayed it with neem oil. They’re both upstairs separate from my other plants. What do you think those were, baby spider mites? They looked like mealy bugs honestly but those have always been white in my experience. I’m gonna let them acclimate for about a week and then I’ll repot by throwing out the soil, rinsing everything with water, and then placing in cups of water for another few weeks before putting in a self watering pots with pon. Would you guys do anything differently? I did also get an anthurium flamingo lily that’s the most healthy I’ve EVER seen… but once home I noticed a tiny spider web on top of soil… nothing in the web though. I placed it upstairs too… I’ll most likely change its soil but I didn’t want to put it in water or pon because mine haven’t done well in either so far so I was going to put it in aroid soil. Do you think it could’ve just been a coincidence? Because seriously it looks so healthy. So confusing.
Repotting my Alocasia & wanted to try growing these corms. The last time I tried the corms rotted on me ☹️ I added perlite to the moss this time, hopefully it helps. I’ll put the lid on the container to maintain humidity & put it underneath a grow light.
I just repotted my elephant ear and I found it had over 20+ corms!!! Does anyone have any tips on how to grow them? I did a little research however not sure if perlite is the only thing you can use to grow them? Something easier perhaps (I’m a little broke and lazy lol)
My Alocasia isn’t doing so great—it started out with 6 leaves and has lost 3! Im trying to increase the light by adding a grow light, and I’m not watering too much. Does anyone have any advice that might help me keep this big guy alive? I’ve only had him a few months….
Hi all, I’ve had this little black velvet alocasia since October and it’s very persnickety. I’ve repotted it, tried keeping it in a bag for humidity, put it under a grow light, and nothing seems to help. It grows one leaf then drops another. I water it approximately every 2 weeks and have fertilized it maybe 1-2 times since I got it. It’s in a 2” pot in an east-facing window. Thanks!
I got this plant a couple weeks ago and it’s been the most temperamental pain in the butt. Any advice on what it needs? It’s been watered and gets plenty of sun. I’ve tried putting it in a couple of places in my living room but once it started wilting it can’t seem to get better. The leaves are all pretty crispy too but the soil is wet so I’m at a loss! Thanks in advance 🙏🏻
I got this alocasia yesterday and I was wondering if anyone has any tips about this plant? it’s my first one.
Can elephant ears be propogated? Feel like I just made up a word. lol. I’ve read different things and get mixed reviews. I want to know if has anyone actually tried it and has had success. My big plant that I've had since last July is dying and I feel like it's only a matter of time before it's too late so I wanted to try to save one of the leaves if possible. Thanks in advance!
Hello! My elephant ear I bought about a month ago… one the leaves is started to turn yellow and droop. The other ones look like it’s turning as well. I originally had it next to a large window but moved it to a lower light area… What should I do? Help!
I need some help identifying this Alocasia! The app thinks it’s an elephant ear (alocasia wentii), the leaves just looked a little more pointy to me than most elephant ears I’ve seen. This was dying in my local Lowe’s, but after cleaning it up some leaves are really gorgeous! First alocasia so any tips & tricks are recomended. I haven’t watered or repotted since bringing home, it’s in peat moss nursery special potting. I’ve got it in quarantine with lots of windows and my aquarium lights and it seems to be perking up!
