Repotting my Alocasia & wanted to try growing these corms. The last time I tried the corms rotted on me ☹️ I added perlite to the moss this time, hopefully it helps. I’ll put the lid on the container to maintain humidity & put it underneath a grow light.

I’m working on 2 Alocasia Longiloba corms right now. First attempt with corms. I scraped off a very thin layer of the outside of the corm with an exacto knife, put them in a glass jar filled with fluval stratum, added water and sealed the top with a lid. The humidity is exactly what the corms wanted/needed. I also put the jar under a grow light and on top of a seed mat. This is 10 days later. 💚 Good luck!!

The little roots are so cute! 😭 I’ve heard good things about people propping with stratum. I’ve never used it before tho.

I was recently turned on to stratum through YouTube. I’ve had great success so far with it. And I am NOT a plant pro so I have no idea what I am doing. Lol. YouTube taught me that stratum works and it does. My props thrive this medium. Even over Winter. 🙌🏼

Awesome 🤞🏼 the videos I watched said they had better success using only perlite so that’s what I did with mines this was the first pic I got more progress now I’ll take a picture once I get home but I’m sure it should be fine with the sphagnum moss just be careful of too much moisture I was told you don’t want to rot the seed

And I got this from a sick silver dragon I bought to practice my recovery skills and I checked the roots to it yesterday and it has more corms developing but can’t wait to see your babies good look🤞🏼

I use a moss and perlite mix for all my corms, I find it’s very low maintenance. Fluval stratum is also another good choice but I find it more finicky than moss. I’ve lost a lot more corms to rot in fluval than moss.

Would you suggest propping the lid open at all? I fear it’ll be too much humidity. I did squeeze out any excess water from the moss prior & misted lightly after the corms were placed.

I have mine completely covered until they get about an inch tall, but you could totally prop it open or poke holes in it to manage the humidity. I check on mine quite frequently to monitor them for rot and so far I’ve only lost 1 or 2 out of the 25 or so that I’ve had growing this way.
