I now am the proud plant parent of 5 carnivorous plants that are each in 2 inch pots. I have 2 different sundews, 2 pinguiculas and a pitcher plant. I bought them from Bountiful Gardens in Lawrenceville, NJ. They have an entire room of carnivorous plants and almost all of them sit in a a very shallow terra cotta bowl of rainwater. I asked if I should have them sit in a tray of water and the guy that helped me said that yes, since in nature they would be found in bogs they should have a little rain or distilled water in their trays. I have also read that they should NOT sit in water as their roots might rot. California Carnivores has a video that says the sundew can sit in water, the pinguiculas can until they are in dormancy, and the pitcher plant shouldn’t. Anyone here that could offer advice on how to keep them healthy?

Noooo! I just noticed one of the pitchers is drying up, but the rest look fine. It’s also growing new leaves, so I thought it was doing good! I’ve kept it in water and the soil has stayed moist, what could have caused this? I have it under a grow light

Hi! I was gifted this beautiful baby for my birthday. I have her in a sphagnum moss and perlite mix. Distilled water ONLY. I did a soil flush 3 days ago and haven’t top watered. I put a little water at the bottom for it to soak up today. Grow light for about 13 hours a day. No less than 12 hrs. And a good dark space for bedtime. Tell me if I should adjust something please. Im absolutely in love with her and want to give her the best.

Hey just got a Venus fly trap! Its “mouth” is always closed and never opens. Why is it like that? Any tips other than keeping it moist, lots of light and not tap water? TIA!

My Venus fly trap caught a fly, that was several days ago. Should I leave it or remove it?

A got this plant a few weeks ago, and it was doing pretty good for the most part. But lately some of the leaves (mostly older growth) have been getting yellow and brown. I have the correct type of soil and my pot has a glaze so there’s no problem with that. I also use distilled water, (I make sure I water it every day because that’s what I was told to do, but now I think that might be the problem. In the day I have a very sunny window and it gets about six hours of sunlight. I’m really not sure what I’m doing wrong, and wondered if anyone had any ideas?

I just got this Nepenthes a couple weeks ago and its pitchers have been turning brown and crinkly. It's watered regularly with distilled water so soil stays moist. I have moved since getting it and it was in low light for a little so I'm hoping it's stress considering none of its leaves have died just the pitchers

Update on my babies this year! I've repotted them in their new planter box and they are doing great. On hot days i use a shade cloth so they don't get sunburn. Other than that I'm happy to see them happy as well 😊

Got my first carnivorous plant yesterday. Drosera capensis. Purchased in addition to nematodes and a Butterwort to try and bring down a fungus gnat infestation when other methods have failed. Is it worth also treating with nematodes? And should I cover the top soil with sphagnum moss as the soil has settled lower than the root plug (hard to tell in photos). How long will it take for the sap to return, and anything I should expect or look out for during the adjustment period? Thanks in advance. 😊
