Got my first carnivorous plant yesterday. Drosera capensis. Purchased in addition to nematodes and a Butterwort to try and bring down a fungus gnat infestation when other methods have failed. Is it worth also treating with nematodes? And should I cover the top soil with sphagnum moss as the soil has settled lower than the root plug (hard to tell in photos). How long will it take for the sap to return, and anything I should expect or look out for during the adjustment period? Thanks in advance. 😊

    Not sure what you've tried for fungus gnats but mosquito bits or mosquito dunks work great! Just presoke them in your water the night before and water all your plants with it. I repeat for about a month so they don't return.

      Sorry for the late response. I didn’t get a notification for some reason. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’ve tried cinnamon as a deterrent, a diatomaceous earth top layer, and hydrogen peroxide (1:4 parts) watering. I’ve purchased Mosquito Bits to try. I live in the UK and they were £20 (around $27 USD) for a small bag - ugh! 😂 I did end up purchasing the Nematodes and have had great results so will use the mosquito bits regularly as a precaution. Do you know if you can use fertiliser also in the mosquito bits water? It doesn’t say on the label at all and conflicting info on google search. Thanks in advance.

      I've added fertilizer to my dunk water twice now and I didn't notice any significant changes. I just fertilized at half strength as a precaution. I just started getting gnats again so I just made some dunk water and am going to start using it again. I just immediately refill my jug when I'm done watering so I always have dunk water ready. I use about 1/8 of a dunk in a gallon (aprox 4 liters) jug and put the dunk in a little fine mesh bag and leave it in the jug and refill the water. You get about 4 or 5 refills out of it before it starts to disintegrate and I just replace the dunk.
