Hello Planta community! New gardener here. Last fall I created my first garden. It’s all perennials and ornamental grasses in the ‘Naturalistic Style’. I’m wondering if I should cut all these plants down before spring like I would if they were established. They’ve only been in the ground since early October and are very small. Figured I’d start here for guidance before searching each individual plant. My plants include: Anise Hyssop, Amsonia Hubrichtii, Amsonia Blue Ice, Aster Eastern Star, Calamagrostis Acutiflora, Deschampsia Cespitosa, Echinacea Purpuria, Rattlesnake Master, Festuca Glauca Elijah Blue, Allium Millenium, Little Blue Stem, Hakenochloa Grass, Little Spire Russian Sage, Rudbeckia American Gold, Sedum Autumn Joy. Thanks!!!

Advice needed! New plants and I’m clueless 😀 Hiiii everyone, I’ve been itching to expand my plant collection and today I got 6 new ones I’ve never had before. After putting them in my Planta app I realized I had no idea what I was doing when it comes to caring for some of them. I’m also quarantining my new plants for the first time since I didn’t get them from greenhouses I know & trust. I would really appreciate advice on how to help them thrive and also what issues/pests to watch out for! The plants in question are: - Elephant ear (not sure what variety, I think the normal kind? Got it from the farmers market) -Swiss cheese plant cutting (rooted) -Philodendron Micans cutting (fresh, not rooted) -Pearl and Jade Pothos cuttings (x2, rooted) -Satin pothos starter plant from a cutting -Baby variegated Alocasia (dawn?), growing from a corm in a lil container of sphagnum moss (has a dome lid not shown) The elephant ear has some weird texture on its leaves but I didn’t really see any signs of pests, I’m still quarantining it from the other new plants (which were all from the same source) just in case. I hoping it just got a bit chilly while outside at the farmers market and is being dramatic.
Any idea what type of plant this is? It’s just labeled ittie bittie bonsai lol
Okay, so sad to write this. Our plant Whitney was soooooo much alive when we got her and now she’s sad asf lol At first, she didn’t have a drain and some of you mentioned how she’s difficult and needs a drainage pot. So we just switched her over and put her closer to light. But man, by the hour she’s getting said and bottom leaves start turning! Any advice? Her soil currently is wet. Like wow. Her before and after within 2 weeks and her leaves. Then said to water her until water comes out the bottom but dang. It’s not leaving the pot lol ugh. I feel so bad for her. Any advice lol
Any tips for my aloe? Help?
I just got this plant from the sale section, it says it’s a dracaena ray of sunshine 🌞 I’m not sure if I should repot this/ just put more soil on top?? The roots are growing wild!
Omg I have never seen a zz plant flower bud before! Look at how cool this is?!
Revitalization tips? I have this nice big tradescantia, but it’s looking a little dull and leggy. Any tips on how to make it look more beautiful and lively?
Sunday vibes 🌱
Every single time I see a fabric or plastic cage when I repot, I die a little inside 🫠 psa reminder to check your plants roots! lol
Any suggestions for if your bamboo in water, water always smells?? I change it once a week and have river rocks in to keep the bamboo upright? Is there something I should add to my water?
Hi! I need help again. I got this Ficus Tineke on clearance today for under $10. Any tips to help it? Also it has these bugs…I assume I should remove all that soil, clean it up and repot?
My autumn flame has such a hard time during the winter (warm but rainy here) 😭 This is the second time I've had to cut her down to the soil. She lives outside, on a covered window ledge. It rained nonstop last week, and the strong winds that were going on must have blown a lot of rain past the overhang. By the weekend she had this funky fungus (?) going on. I think next year I'll bring her indoors for the season 😔 Hope to see her thriving again soon...
Good lord, I never knew begonia’s were sooooo temperamental! Granted this is my first one and I got spoiled with amazing pothos’ but still lol. Like I was doing it a FAVOR by repotting it out of non breathable soggy soil into a better mix for its species and then it goes and yellows some leaves and gets all these crunchy spots. Even with its own PERSONAL humidifier right next to it, bathing it in rainforest mist. I mean if I treated myself like this plant, I’d be a thriving queen. Okay, lol, rant over. But like did anyone ever have this temperamental of begonias while they’re acclimating? Photo of what this princess looked like before it threw a fit, I’m hoping to have a comeback story for this one to share later lol.
Does anyone know what’s in this or know how it works? These are ice packs used to deliver my medicine, which must stay refrigerated. I get that nitrogen promotes leaf growth, so conceptually I get it…but not really. I’ve used it on outside plants and it seemed to make no difference 🤷♀️. Thoughts on inside plants??
How do you change a plants age on Planta?
I am repotting my plants on the south facing front porch. I live in SW FL My fiddle fig has roots coming out of the bottom of the pot. I got this or at Target and it has an attached tray for water, but I want to change it to one I can water till it runs out of the bottom and when finished put it back on the porch in a drip tray. Do I need to go up in diameter or height of the planter? TIA!
This is my sister‘s birds nest fern, and she sent me some photos and said “HELP!” She also said this one leaf was normal when it popped out, and she thinks something is eating it. I told her to get a magnifying glass and flashlight, but she’s not seeing anything, at this point. She’s not a plant person, and really wants her birds nest fern to get better. I don’t have any magic, but maybe some of you out there can tell her what is wrong with her plant? TIA!
