Mikel’s Plant Posse

Took this shot just before all that Covid stuff happened when I lived in a place with a beautiful rose bush out front…

Happy Monday, plant friends! What’s the first plant you checked on this morning, and why? I checked on my variegated vanilla orchid. It had some root rot and I’m trying to re-root it 😅

Hungryroot food delivery service sends their boxes with these to keep food cold. Has anyone used this as plant food, or know anything about it (is it true? is it safe?)? Thanks!

I’m relatively new to plant care and I’m on the high functioning side of the autism spectrum. I really find a lot about it that soothes some of my symptoms! Sensory stimulation, patience and calmness etc. I can really see getting obsessed with these plants and overloading my collection! Anybody else on the spectrum and know what I’m saying there?

What is wrong with my wandering Jew? I had 4 cuttings and this is all that’s left 🥹

Anyone have any experience with micro dosing fertilizer with each watering vs consentrated monthly or seasonal dose? How did it go?

I just noticed a very defined purple vein coming in on my rattlesnake plant after 2+ years! Sooo cool to see the purple coming through to the top of the leaf, not just the entire underside!

Albo Marginata Xanthosoma - can anyone tell me more about this plant I just picked up? Is the wrinkly growth pattern on the leaves normal? 😅

I’ve had this homemade tea light fixture in storage for quite some time. Then I got the idea that these little pots fit perfectly! So I attached it to my front porch and bingo! I’m gonna need more pots and plants! I’ll probably use some clippings from my other plants first. These little guys I bought from a local nursery. I’m excited!! I can’t wait until it’s completely full! Any suggestions on what kind of plants are ideal for indirect and partial direct afternoon light? My porch faces northwest with large, bushy tress in the front yard. Many thanks in advance!

Does anyone else dislike the Dr. Planta update?😅 It used to be so simple, just clicking yes or no about care info and such. Now I have to have a whole “conversation” which defeats the point of asking an app imo… (not to mention the water usage of AI chatbots 💔)

I have a baby Monstera that I’ve had for a few months now, but it hasn’t produced any new leaves. It produced one leaf then an old leaf died. It’s been with two leaves for several months now. I fertilize it once a month. The roots are very healthy (I use clear pots so I can see the roots). It receives bright indirect light. Does it need more light? Should I move it closer to the window?
