Hello! My plant collection is growing rapidly and I just got this fiddle leaf fig for $10 at Loweâs đ€ this is my first one and itâs a dream house plant of mine. I have so many questions: 1. Should I repot/change out the soil? It seems to be in a pretty chunky orchid bark type mixture but when I went to water it did not absorb right away. 2. From research I know they donât like to get moved but is near a window and with a grow light too much for this plant? 3. Is there any hope for more leaves towards the bottom of the stem? The whole stem is green but I fear itâs going to be completely bare on the bottom! Thank you plants kings and queens!!
Hi! Newish plant mama here. I have some wildflower pots, a turtle vine, and blueberry bush outside that canât be brought in (DC/VA/MD area climate). What are some good options to winterize them while they stay outside this winter? When I got them I was told theyâd be ok outside all winter but after getting alerts to bring them inside through Planta, Iâm concerned for their wellbeing. Asking for advice! Thanks plant community :) Also, Iâve nursed the blueberry just back to life and it had lots of new growth. Unsure if itâs appropriate to cut off the branches or if itâs fine to leave them.
Can anyone tell me what this plant is Ty And can someone tell me how to take care of it.
HellođđŸ. My coffee plant which I've kept on my shaded front porch until recently, is suffering due to the night temperature going below 40 degrees. All the leaves look dry and shriveled. Can I bring it back? I brought it inside.
Hello plant family is it time for me to repot my money tree? Last time I repotted a plant it died but leaves are starting to fall off. Help please
My name is Mysti....and I kill Marantas. No idea why....use distilled water and don't let it dry out, give it light and love. I will try again....would love to have a collection but gotta keep at least 1 alive for awhile first!
Good morning & Happy Monday!
Have I killed my pink princess? When I water her, water goes straight through the soil. Iâm back to bottom watering for her, but half the leaves are brown and wilted. Yet every time I water her, it seems like sheâs not drinking it up. Canât tell if itâs over or under watering these days.
I rescued a few plants from going to the land fill and I know what most of them are, but this one is stumping me. Is it an ardisia? Planted thinks itâs an ardisia but my friendâs app thinks itâs a money tree. It doesnât look quite like a money treeâs trunk, so thatâs why Iâm thinking an ardisia or a dwarf umbrella plant? Any help would be great. Thanks!
A relatively new ZZ is rather leaning. I took this from a larger ZZ I was repotting. Iâm propping it up with the wood block behind it now. I wanted to gift this to someone but want to make sure itâs going to be OK first. Any tips or advice for this?
The generosity in my neighborhood just fills my cup!!! Of course this one came home with me :)
I have a bathroom with no windows and extremely limited (natural) light. Itâs humid, generally warm, but gets very little light. Iâd love to get some greenery in there, but have no idea what might survive! Any ideas? Thanks!
my bird of paradise hasnt pushed out a new leaf since may, what could be the cause for this and how can I fix it?
Any recommendations for rechargeable grow lamps? For a hallway with little natural light and no electrical outlets.
Good afternoon, everyone đ Iâm trying to find some strip grow lights to stick underneath my shelves for my lower light houseplants. The shelves are metal racks, so the trickiest part is finding one to properly stick the grow lights to the top of it, or lights with straps that I can use to attach to the rack itself to hold them in place. Thanks in advance for any help in finding something that would work for this đ±
Hey everyone! I need some help with cleaning my plants leafs! I have two big dogs that are great but their hair gets everywhere, the cleaning sprays Iâve used so far seem to make the dog hair stick to the leafs. Anyone have any tips or tricks theyâve had success with? Thank you!
I am new to taking care of plants. I have had this plant for a couple months and water it regularly. It is not doing well. What am I doing wrong?
A long, emotional post about my current plant journey & life I suffered a really painful breakup & betrayal in April of this year. I decided & arranged to move out of our shared apartment in a single night. I moved into my auntâs basement, which has a living room, bathroom, & bedroom. For context, Iâm 24. When I moved, I had some seedlings in peat pellets & a few planters prepared for the season. I had grown tomatoes and herbs in the past, nothing more. When I arrived at my auntâs, her work was having a flower fundraiser. She loves flowers but has limited mobility; she told me if I maintained the plants, she would pay for $200 worth of flowers. I researched the flowers offered that were the most beloved by my local pollinators, & suddenly I was responsible for ~30 plants. I could definitely do it. My mom and grandma are both devoted gardeners, indoor & outdoor. I put my headphones on, enjoyed some Mary Jane, listened to an audiobook & worked outside. Somehow I had ran into a hobby that required planning, mental & physical energy, daily commitment, & was fulfilling for those around me. Building the garden was a huge task that allowed me to redirect the care & intention I had given my relationship. It was a way of settling in to my new environment that met all of my needs. In the bedroom downstairs, 2 of the walls have large, 8x3ft windows, & a ~10 inch ledge just beneath them, along the entire wall. I began to imagine trailing plants hanging down & around the ledges in my bedroom. I knew nothing about houseplants. My aunt had some I tried to save, but I killed her peace lily immediately. I bought my first few on marketplace without knowing what to doâ a fiddle leaf, split leaf philodendron, golden pothos, spider plant, etc. You all know how this goes. Indoor plants are a different beast! & I had ~15 feet of east & south facing windowsills in my bedroom. They began to multiply, I bought more and more. I began propagating. Instagram had caught on & I was learning about homemade moss poles & chunky soil. Once I made the chunky soil, every plant needed a repot! I became (and still am) obsessed with repotting. I picked up every trick I couldâ pest control mixtures, treating root rot, using stakes for support, bottom planting, filtered water, humidity. Caring for my houseplants became one of the reasons I wanted to get out of bed every day. Giving plants as gifts, plant swaps, trading with my relatives, taking cuttings from plants in public. Now, everything smells like neem oil. I am constantly buying soil, orchid bark, coco chips, & perlite. I just made my first moss pole! I have begun selling plants. I have 45 according to Planta, but an entire windowsill is devoted to propagates. The cellar has my crotons, straining under a grow light. I have to touch the plants I see in restaurants, bars, and boutiques. I watch repotting ASMR on Instagram & check marketplace daily. I am also grappling with the fact that winter is almost here, and the plants may begin to struggle. I shouldnât buy more for a while because they wonât thrive for a while, right? Well I just bought 4 more plants today, and itâs November 1st. Wish me luck. I canât really wrap my head around how crucial this journey has been to recovering from my breakup. I do know, however, that this brings me so much joy. Planta has been ESSENTIAL to this processâ I donât have half the worries other plant parents do since I got a moisture meter & Planta tells me what to do & when. The Planta community has been fun to participate in & I plan to remain here. I just needed to get that out. I never thought this would become such a big part of my life, but Iâm really enjoying it now itâs here. If you read this far, may your new leaves always be larger than their predecessors. May thrips & spider mites tremble before you, & your roots always be white. Thank you for being here.
Does anyone know why my baby rubber plant is pushing out them stalk thing?
