Todays plant fact: size plants: Depending on the size plants you get, the easier or harder it is to kill that plant. This is because a big plant doesn’t need to be watered often, but needs to be watered with more water because of the size. A small plant wouldn’t need to be watered as much but would need to be watered frequently because of the small size of the plant.

Today’s plant fact: bromeliads : Although many bromeliads can grow in soil, they don’t need to use their roots.This is because in the wild bromeliads use aerial roots to hold onto tree branches.Instead using their leaves or ‘crown’ to get nutrients and water.The reason bromeliads grow on branches is to get as much sunlight as possible because bromeliads normally grow on the ground floor where there is little sunlight.

Plant fact of the day: If you cut open an aloe leaf it might be stinky,this is because of yellow latex sap that forms when you cut the leaf, this happens because the latex is used to ward off predators from eating or burrowing into the plant.

Hi everyone! I’m new here but I’m very concerned about my celosia plant. I just found these bugs on it. What are they and how do I get rid of them? Thanks in advance for your help!

Howdy. I reside in Alaska and iron oxide is a common ingredient in the water. Most can’t afford to drill to the depths of 132’-136’ for iron oxide (rust) free water, but there is a solution (my well is 30’ deep) to clean up the water naturally and that’s with Shungite chips from the Karelian region of Russia. I wanted to share this knowledge with the Planta community because it could help out my fellow human, and beloved plants that need cleaner water. Attached is what I use for cleaning the drinking water. Once a month, I clean the Shungite with citrus acid and water. I know it works because the water turns orange as the iron oxide is released by the citric acid aka lemon juice. Once the Shungite is used up (about 6 months), I add them to the soil of my plants which provides carbon. Have a great gardening season! Cheers!

I have a small kiwi plant vine. It says it likes full sun, but it seemed sunburnt when I picked it up from the sprouts outdoor plants section so I am confused as to how this can happen. Supposed to grow fast and I'm planning on putting it into a garden bed later today. Ill comment when I've finished.

I got my new money tree sent today due to the last one having rotten root. (It’s shown here from what I could salvage, is it ok to keep it close to the new one?). With the new one, This time the soil is dry on the top. When I touched its dry on top of the soil and about an inch deep it’s very lightly damp. When would you recommend me watering it for the first time? Also is this a good place to keep it near the window with the shades closed so it can get indirect light or is it too close? (it’s about 1 ft away from the window)

Frands. In three weeks my pink princess has gotten two new leaves and I noticed this morning a 3rd is beginning to emerge! Since there’s no telling how much pink might be on the next leaf, isn’t it like really frickin exciting to anticipate what the next leaf might look like!?!?!?!?! Y’all I cannot even wait. I feel like I need to carry it around with me so I don’t miss the exact millisecond that it’s fully visible. Anyone else have any cool new leaves they’re excited about? Big or small we love them all, show off your cool leaves! 🤣 This is my last one!

I’ve had several holiday cactus over the years, and no matter what I do, they end up thin and purple. I want the fat plump bright green growth like when they are new. (Or the aged and dried brown on really old growth is fine too.) Thoughts?

Tiny philodendron propagule just popped out 3 new variegated leaves that I didn't see on the mother plant! Is this good/does it mean it's happy?

I have tripod grow lights with different setting options. I have one window that all my plants are by but many need extra from the grow lights(bird of paradise for example) What is the general rule for using grow lights? White, red, blue, mixed light? I've had my bird bloom twice in a season two yrs ago. It needed a new pot which I did last year, but it hasn't bloomed since. Any recs?
