This little firecracker was by far in the worst shape as far as dehydration from the orchid show sale, but I figured for 10 bucks, and these vibrant colors, I could take the chance on rehabbing it. Mtdm. Pacific Waters ‘Paul’s Pride.’

Another 10 dollar score from the post orchid show sale. No ID on this one. From my limited research, it looks like it’s related to the Dendrobium Chan Chao. It’s my first dendrobium. I would have guessed some kind of epidendrum or epicattelya. Anybody know these types well? Is this variety recognizable to you? Any tips for care and culture?

She bloomed!!!! 😍😍😍😍 first time since moving into this house (3 years) and maybe 4 or 5 years since her last bloom cycle (before I knew how to properly care for her) she’s got 2 more buds on her so more blooms soooooooon! 😍😍🥳🥳🥳

I went to the orchid show at the New York Botanical Garden. It was very expensive but, wow.

First time orchid parent!! I’ve heard these are ALMOST impossible to keep alive. I know I need to repot her soon, can someone tell me what their best repot/care routine? 🖤

Love the variegated leaf and long spidery petals on this guy. Brsdm. Golden Urchin ‘Ontario’. Amy, there’s no way to tag people on Planta, but I hope you see this… they had dozens of these for sale at the orchid show sale, all of this type had some degree of the tiny spots on leaves that we were discussing. Looking back on the event, some displays of these were in higher light, some in lower- I think this is just one of those related intergenerics that are prone.

TODAY WAS THE BIG ORCHID SHOW SALE!!! These are ones I picked up for my friends and my mom. They also had really cool blind boxes with 6 orchids in each that had already lost their blooms for $20 per box! I got some of my DREAM cattleyas by just googling images from the names on the tags!

Dark brown spots are developing on my Oncidium Sharry Baby. Some spots are at the leaf tip and others are not. They weren’t there when I purchased the plant last summer. I heard Oncidiums are prone to leaf spots but wondering if I should be concerned that something is wrong. I have the plant under a grow light. The plant didn’t flower this year but it’s growing plump new bulbs. The old bulbs are still plump and firm. No pictures of the roots but I did check them and they look normal- firm, white, not mushy. What is causing the spotting? Virus? Bacteria? Should I spray the leaves with something?

Does anyone know what’s happening? I was watering my orchid but then I noticed this.

hi i’m new to having an orchid and i want to do my best to take care of her. Any advice on trying to save her? I’ve been soaking her in water for 24 hrs and then letting her dry for 24hours but the roots still look silver. I have orchid bark should i pot her? lmk!

Hello all! I’ve had this orchid for nearly two years and after falsely identifying roots as spikes, learning what roots look like and repotting a few times — even trying to convert it to living in water and deciding it was happier in bark — is this FINALLY a spike emerging?? It’s definitely flatter and has a different shape than the roots. Thanks for any responses!

I rescued this beauty from the Lowe’s clearance shelf last fall and her buds finally blossomed this week! Ain’t she a beaut? Her name was Judy, but think I need to change it now to Judy Blume 😊 I’m new to houseplants in general (I didn’t inherit my mothers green thumb, planta has really helped me) so I’m super proud I was able to save her- orchids are my favorite of all my plants

Will this orchid recover from root rot? It was from the grocery store and in bloom when I received it. I didn’t check the roots because it was in bloom but over a few weeks the bulbs began to wrinkle. Today I decided to cut the flower spike off (it was still in bloom but the flowers were starting to fade) and removed all the old potting medium. Media was severely degraded and fungus was growing in it. There was a “plug of death”. Lots of mushy roots. I cleaned the plant off and repotted in a small, more ventilated pot with fresh orchidmedia and threw in some charcoal for good measure. Do you think it will survive or is the bulb too far gone? Will the bulb eventually plump back up? What should I do to help the plant recover/ decrease stress on the plant?

Just the tiniest bit of research told me that this new visitor should not pose a threat to my orchid, and in fact, tend to eat some more common orchid pests. However- thought I’d check in with the group and confirm that you guys haven’t ever had negative outcomes with ladybugs on your orchids. (Also- where the heck did this guy come from?!? It’s MARCH… in CHICAGO! There’s snow out there! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️)

What happened I’m so concerned 🥲 anyone know and/or have suggestions?

Seeking recommendations for this unhappy orchid! This phal started growing a keiki probably 2 years ago now, maybe 3. I waited for its roots to grow before thinking of chopping it, but every time I thought I should, it started putting out flowers! The mother plant had some leaf breakage about a year ago and I’m concerned with how dark and droopy the leaves are, with such shrivelled aerial roots. Mama plant recently lost a leaf or two from the bottom, too. It stays about as close to a south facing window (northern hemisphere) as it can without being directly IN the window, yet it’s still so dark. Wintertime so humidity has been between 30-40%. The roots were stained brown from the original potting media so it’s very hard to tell how they’re doing without unpotting the whole thing. Can anyone give me some advice on how to proceed (other than cutting that shrivelled flower stalk, lol sorry)? Thanks so much!

I got this guy at a post orchid show sale last year, with no tag, so the id may not be exact. It’s an estimation based on other orchid groups and google research. It was pretty dehydrated and in very old medium, so I thought it might not bloom for me this year, but it has this lovely spike with 8 flowers, and a smaller spike on another pseudobulb! Really throwing out good roots and strong new growth. Slight fragrance.
