Hey everyone, happy Sunday! A few weeks ago I posted a question about my moth orchid, it was looking unhealthy and leathery and the roots were mostly dead. I asked if it was worth saving and a few of you said yes, and recommended that I keep the remaining part of the plant out of water for a few weeks, dip it in water a few mins here and there, and see if new roots appear before I repot. It’s been a few weeks, the leaves are still intact and there are 2 little nubs coming out. Are these new roots? I’ve never repotted or tried to revive an orchid before. Is it ok to repot now or wait longer? Thank you 😊

Stymied! The plan was to repot this Moth Orchid now that all the blooms have dropped. Then I noticed this bloom spike. So I cut back the die off part of the last spike. If I repot now will the shock kill this spike? Can I still repot?

Duuu-dum… It’s been a month of waiting. Duuu-dum… Taking its sweet time. Duuu-dum… Feels like freakin forever. Duuu-duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh dun… Can’t wait for it to open! Duuu-duh duuuuuum… Paphiopedilum spicedrianum Usually I don’t have great luck with species, but I had to take a chance on this beauty. So excited it appreciates my care. Might have to try others. Not sure why I thought the Jaws theme (yes, that is what I was trying for) was an appropriate frame for this post but here we are.

Hello! I just received this orchid a few days ago. The app recommended bottom watering but the pot it’s in doesn’t have any drainage on the bottom, should I repot it? And is it safe to do so?

What do these spikes (?) on the roots and base of my orchid mean? It's not in bloom right now and hasn't been for about 2 months by now

Once my orchid finished blooming and dropped its petals I cut the stem above the second node, but haven’t seen any new growth yet. I’m wondering if I did this right?

So I just realized that my orchid is suffering from root rot šŸ˜… It was hard to notice because all the affected roots were covered by the new healthy growing roots. I chopped off a sozable amount of rotting roots and I was wondering: What should I do before repotting her? I watered her yesterday and I know when I take her out of her pot I have to cut every single affected root off but I could’ve sworn there was something else I had to do like sanitize the plant or something? I’m not sure

Just repotted the three musketeers. Two of them may be doomed as they each had only one decent root. Those i returned to their original pots. The third I put in a larger pot. I cut off all the papery & mushy roots. Used a potting medium for orchids that has perlite, fir bark, pumice and something called a wetting agent. Should I fertilize now or wait? The window is west facing window so afternoon sun.

Brassolaelia Richard Mueller x Cattleya Triumphans I really like how variable the bloom color is, ranging from buttery yellow to red orange. And it’s been blooming every four or so months.

Hello! can anyone give me advice on how to get my orchid to bloom again ? :,) i’ve had her well over a year now, after her blooms fell august in 2022, her stem also died and literally detached from the base. she shows no signs of regrowing a stem though, but she’s grown a few leaves since then so i know she’s healthy. please give me tips to get her to rebloom šŸ™

Really cool presentation this year. If you’re anywhere near the area, it’s worth checking out The Orchid Show of Wonders at the Chicago Botanic Garden.

Went to The Orchid Show of Wonders today at The Chicago Botanic Gardens. Scroll through photos below to see some of the stunning varieties they had on display- I’ll create another post with the very clever circus themed displays.

I just bought this orchid in water, and would like some tips on how to care for it! I already know not to get the leaves wet, and only have the vase filled halfway, what else is there to know? Anything is appreciated! ā˜ŗļøšŸ’—šŸŒæšŸŽ€

I have this moth orchid that has new growth but one leaf is much longer and thinner than all the leaves it already had. It also isn’t as ā€œflatā€ like the others. Curious why this might be - too much light? Too little light?

Help! Is this moth orchid worth saving or should I just try with a new one? I’ve had this moth orchid for almost a year and while it stopped blooming, it stayed healthy and pretty for months. Up until recently when the leaves started to feel leathery, shriveled. I read that I should check for the roots, and I saw that almost all the roots tangled in the bottom were brown, mushy or wood-like. So I trimmed them and now I’m left with this, just a few new green-silvery roots. I thought of soaking it in water and find out what I can do. Can I save it and repot? Besides getting new orchid bark is there anything else I need to do? Appreciate any help or tips from you guys. šŸŖ“šŸ™
