Help! I’m new to orchids and recently got this one. How can I tell if it’s thirsty? I’m doing weekly soaks for 30-45 mins. It’s planted in orchid bark. I will soak it but the roots never really turn vibrant green for longer than a day. The roots are plump however and do not feel hollow. The leaves are doing this wrinkling and I’m worried about overwatering. Any tips? Should I switch to growing in an empty glass jar and a very small amount of water at the bottom? It’s beginning to drop off its flowers. The flowering photo is the day I purchased it in July.

My Oncidium Sharry Baby is in bloom 😊. She didn’t bloom last year and I assume it was a combination of shock from repotting and not the right water and lighting conditions, but this year’s spike are nice. The larger spike is over 2 ft in length. The shorter spike wasn’t supported and it folded on itself yesterday 😖 but didn’t break. I extended the spike support and fingers crossed 🤞🏼 the spike makes it. Lovely sweet fragrance 😊

Update! Four days later and it seems we have a color changer on our hands! Not only that- but… fellow orchid lovers… she has a SCENT! Very subtle and light- kind of a hint of lily. A really cool Cattleya.

*Click and zoom to see full photo* Our vanilla orchid has been a slow but steady grower. So thankful that it’s been doing so well. Although some vanilla pods at some point would be AMAZING. Ty 💚🫥

The initial blooming on this little lovely was all jacked up because the buds were mangled by what turned out to be my introduction to thrips. (0 out of 5 stars- do not recommend) The next blooming was improved but still not what I had hoped for, and I wasn’t sure if it was set back or that I just had a hybrid with some unfortunate mutations. I decided to give it one more cycle before I gave up on it. Glad I did. Three beautiful medium sized flowers with almost water color hues of purple on the petals and a velvety dark purple lip. The sun isn’t up yet, so the pic isn’t the best- I’ll try to get another after work. Hope you’re all having a day that brings the sighs and smiles this orchid brought me this morning.

Got this Phalaenopsis orchid on clearance because I couldn’t leave it behind, but it’s clearly struggling. I’ve had trouble keeping orchids alive in the past, so I’m hoping for some advice before I make things worse. I moved it from the store packed sphagnum moss to the vase because I don’t think it was getting much water before.

Help! I have been taking care of this orchid in my office. The flowers have gradually fallen off over the last month or so (which I think happens every year, right??), but now the leaves are falling off as well. But I also see a new leaf?? Also this root doesn't look good. What do I do???

My orchid has finished bloom but she has no roots but she’s giving me some new leaves. HELP!!!

I dont know what happened to this plant lost all leafs and then went black roots are still green though

I have a moth orchid (grocery store gift) in my bathroom and it’s in a corner about 3 feet from a window. So it gets some indirect light but not much. Should I use a grow light or is this light sufficient? If I should use a grow light, I would welcome recommendations for orchids.

Odontocidium Wildcat 'Bobcat' Good morning glory! I got this one as a seedling and been waiting what seems like ages for blooms. Not a bad show for a first go. I’ve read it’s fragrant but I haven’t been able to smell anything yet.

Hi all This is my moth orchid which I have had for a number of years now. This is the healthiest I have ever seen it, it was looking rather sorry for itself last year but after some adjusts it’s produced its largest amount of flowers ever! As you can see from the pic below a number of new roots are outside of the pot. In the pot is orchid bark only. Should I repot it so that all roots are inside the pot? Or leave as? I read recently that when the roots turn ashy looking they need watering so I just dunked it in a bucket. There’s only a few healthy roots in the bark now. It sits in my kitchen in a south west window. Thank you Sarah

OH. NOOOOO I have been babying my wee moth orchid for months, it seems. She lost her lower leaves, and essentially no roots left when examined. She was left with one wee little green tip ' a root trying to grow and she had 2 tiny leaves that popped up. So, I removed all the dead stuff leaving her with this stump/stalk and her wee root. Planta helped me with instruction... She was in a cloche that the underside was misted daily & a grow light. I've been babying her and - sigh, over cared. Looking at her today- found the wee root was to moist & sloughed off. I gave her stalk a water bath to clean her and she is as you see. I changed out her cactus/succulent tiny chips & will put her back in the cloché under the growlight. Now - my hard question. What to fo next? Do I organize a funeral? I need your truthful help

After losing the flowers, this orchid has been losing leaves and has a terrible condition now. I don’t know why, but can it be revived?!

Today I noticed that one of my orchids is getting a yellow leaf on the bottom of the plant. I’m not sure why, but I transferred it into orchid bark well over a month ago, so I don’t think it is shock, and it’s in the same place as my other orchid, who looks like it’s doing okay. Is it just an old leaf or what?

2 weeks later… this speciosa will never stop being interesting to me… 🤭 12 buds open on 5 spikes, (and most are different configurations of purple and white petals- one all purple guy,) with 4-5 other spikes still developing! Highly recommend this type if you can get your hands on a similar polychilos hybrid.

Experimented with water culture… it was ugly at first lost one big stem but one of them grew a new one and is giving me buds!!! So excited. Roots are actively growing can’t wait for them to reestablish themselves
