In other news… my gorgeous orchid here has finally had all its buds bloom <3
Hello my wonderful plant people! Please help! It’s gnat season here and they are hitting us like never before. These guys are getting super crafty and I’m running out of options
My moth orchid has this white splotch growing on the leaf recently. I’m not sure if it is a pest issue, but i have separated from the rest of my plants just in case. Any ideas/solutions? :)
Hi! I’m determined *not* to kill this little orchid I picked up today. I noticed it came with these little spots on the leaves. Any experience with what that might be and if anything should be done about them? Thanks!
Hi everyone! I’ve just noticed that the bottom leaf of my Phal looks like it’s tearing. Is that common or is it a sign that something is wrong with it? I’ve repotted a few weeks ago & have gotten new root growth but I’m new to orchids so I’m not sure if I need to be worried or not. Thanks in advance!
My orchid is done flowering so I wanted to consider repotting. I know they prefer smaller spaces… do you think this sized pot will be okay for it?
Do I need to replant? It seems happy and has new growth as you can see. I just have ever had so many air roots before. It sits in a window and gets a bit of morning sun now that Fall has arrived, but that will change to indirect sun. It has lived here for over 6 months.
Quick survey… how many of your (already acclimated to your house- not brand new) phalaenopsis are spiking right now? I’m trying to be patient, but only 1 of my 8 are growing a flower spike, and I’m wondering what I may need to change in their culture.
Hi there! Just wanted to share some orchid joy here. My mother gave me a severely root rotted and fungus infected orchid literally about to be on deaths door that she found. Now usually I’m a carnivorous plant rescuer, but I figured I would give it a go. My treatment regiment has been using arber fungicide instead of something super strong (like phyzan for instance, is a chemical one normally would use for such a heinous fungus infection) I started out soaking the plant, the pot, and the medium for 15 minutes in the diluted solution. Then went down to weekly. I also removed all the mushy roots, and the most heavily infected leaves. I allowed it to dry onto the orchid, with help from a gentle fan. I keep it with my nepenthes so it’s in 60+ humidity and bright indirect light and over 70f. It’s been about four months, only watering by doing the soak, and keeping the spagnum top dressing moist with distilled water. The medium is just orchid bark. And I’m happy to say that there is not just new roots but a tiny leaf starting to appear! The before and afters not that great yet, but please let me know if I’m missing anything here.
hi, new to the orchid-mom life! just got her less than two weeks ago (pictured). i waited to water until two days ago (did not get crown wet and let all the water drain). it looks like her aerial roots (i think are shriveling. her flowers are still beautiful and in full bloom. took a picture of her roots and a little bit of the leaf may be turning but unsure. any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!
Y’all will probably appreciate this more than my non-plant obsessed family. This is my first oncidium, an Ons. Catatante 'Orange Kiss'. My hubby bought it for me 6 years ago lovely and in bloom. She’s been plugging along with no flowers all that time (thanks to me not knowing I needed to fertilize her regularly). I learned, changed my habits and then she BLOOMED spectacularly! Hopefully I’ll get more than one spike in 6 years now! 🤞
My first zygopetalum, the Jumpin Jack variety. It’s got such a cool pattern on the flowers. I thought people were exaggerating when they said these plants do not have a floral scent, but one more ‘spicy’. But these blooms smell EXACTLY like black pepper. Not everyone’s cup of tea, of course, but what an interesting orchid.
I was just gifted this gorgeous orchid! Wondering what type it is specifically and any advise / tips on care? Also, the roots are sticking out a bit, should I do anything about that?
I’m new to orchids. What is happening here? What do I need to do to care for my orchid?
Is this possibly a flower spike? Mini moth orchid, only had since July. First blooms fell off a week after it was gifted to me and it's put out a few new leaves since then. Pretty sure one of those nodes are a new root (coming in under a leaf) but the one on the left coming in above the leaf looks like a spike? Took this right after watering and a mist. She was due for both
Hey everyone, quick question about this orchid that I got for my birthday (it has a long name as it’s a hybrid). The flowers that it had (and it had a lot of them!) have dried out and I had to cut them off but now I noticed that it has a lot of white roots coming out of the moss at the base and some leaves have started to yellow. Should I repot and if yes any tips on what to repot it in (I have never repotted orchids 🫣) or should I just remove the top moss?? Any suggestions highly appreciated as I would very much like to keep this plant alive (it’s a gift from my mother-in-law and if it doesn’t survive it would be the second one - she already gifted me 2 y ago a rose of the tiny variety that didn’t make it)
Hi everyone! Any advice on what to do with this orchid? I was gifted this on mid-September and all was well: I was waiting for flower drops (eventually) before reporting into clear vase and orchid medium, avoided overwatering/watering frequently as well (I think that’s what killed my older orchids)… last watering and leave misting was 6 days ago, then left for vacation over the weekend and came back to this yellow leaves, limpy/soft flowers, and one of the flowers had dropped. Panta scheduled misting for today (I made sure to list the leaves only) and next watering scheduled 5 days from now, I wouldn’t think this is under watering…. Or is it? Any advice? I’d like to keep this orchid alive and get it healthy for its next bloom! Appreciate this community and your feedback!
These are all of my orchids at the moment (minus my two jewels) my partner says we’re done for the year. (I just got into orchids this year lol)
Update! Apparently it takes about 10-12 days for a paph bud to adjust to my environment and then open. 🤭 Worth the wait.
Anyone know why the orchid leaves starts to look droopy?
