Hi! I just got this basil plant. I used to harvest leaves right away when I bought herbs but I’m not sure about how great that was for them now. I kill plants so I’m questioning everything. Should I harvest and prune or should I wait? How will I know it’s time to do either?
Definitely repot as multiple plants and roots are crammed in the little pot, fighting for water and nutrients. You’ll want to cut just above the leaves closest to the pot and they’ll grow two sets of leaves. The tops that you cut off, you can do similar and keep the bottom leaves to propagate in water. I personally don’t have the best luck with sticking plants directly in soil, so I grow the roots in water, then plant in soil. Good luck 🪴✨

I agree! Store bought basil plants are all tightly smushed into a pot. Replanting them even into a bigger pot (take the root ball out and very carefully try to separate them as much as possible) will let those guys grow more. There’s no issue with how many leaves you took! It looks good to me. Just crammed and maybe a bit underwatered
