Someone asked a question about âfull sun, or not full sunâ with regard to cactus. My answer is that Iâm still figuring it out. Most of my plants are still young, and Iâm maybe guilty of under-sunning due to that. I am also not trying to prove anything or win best in show ha.
After putting this Cholla in the sun today - a plant that I know loves to bake - I took a look around and noticed the mid-day shadows. It was a âno duhâ moment of the best spot for these who, yeah they can take 98 degrees and full sun but arenât supposed to be in Northern Utah elevation etc.
Instead of my fever dreams of fake foliage and screens, use whatâs already there. The bonkers screenshots below are light meter readings of the mid-day sun (high number) and subtle relief the shadows offer when the sun is a magnifying glass.
See me in a week when I change my mind.
A little help to translate the above (from leafandclay:
âSucculents do best when exposed to between 3,000 and 4,000 fc (foot-candles), where as cacti do best when exposed to between 4,000 and 5,000 fc. Sounds great, but what in the world is a "foot-candle"? Foot-candles are defined as "a unit of illumination equal to that given by a source of one candela at a distance of one foot (equivalent to one lumen per square foot or 10.764 lux)," which is basically a fancy, old-fashioned unit of measurement.â

Does anyone know anything (tips/pointers) on how yo care for a Mother Of Thousands? Mine is growing extremely fast and I think I may need to repot it soon. Havenât even had it a year and itâs growing up super fast! Hereâs a pic of it.

Hello!
I have this bunny eared cactus that has grown a lot since I bought it. Now itâs hunched over from the weight on top. Recently it had fungus in the soil; I scraped it off and treated the soil with peroxide and water.
Any suggestions on how to handle these big ears??

Need some help here.
So this was a small hairy succulent cacti that I purchased 2 years ago. It started with 2 pads that were about the size of a dollar coin. Then stalks came last summer, and this summer pads.
I know itâs a Prickly Pear of some kind but I cannot find anything similar in the Planta database.
Thoughts?
The entire thing is wobbling over like an inflatable arm waiving car dealership gimmick.
(Ignore its pot mate T.C.)

My string of watermelons is growing like a sea serpent in my large planter. It grows up into the air and then dips down and digs into the soil to root itâs vine and then pops back up. If I were to take a time lapse of a year of growth sped up it would look like it was swimming through this planter. It is about to flower as well for the first time.

Do these roots look normal? Theyâre not soggy like root rot, but theyâre VERY dark and hard to the touch - almost like sticks?? Should I just try and reroot the whole plant?

Hey circle!! I am thinking about doing it⊠I think I am going to propagate string of pearls!! My string of pearls is so long and I want to have a new baby plant!
I am going to do it a few different ways: water, soil, and a singular pearl. I have searched up all of these and found out they are all possible!! I will be posting updates every week about my baby strings. So excited and totally going to do it after work!!
If you have any recommendations than feel free to share.
