Haven’t made a post here in a while since I had the flu, but man this fly trap is doing amazing!!! I’m so proud of her🥹💞
Evening, my Dionaea muscipula (Venus fly trap) has white bits in the soil that seems to be mould. I’ve only recently bought it and when I bought it, I was charged very little as it was severely dehydrated in the garden centre. I was planning on repotting soon but hoping to revive it a bit more so it’s stronger for the transfer. The pot it came in has drainage holes with the roots poking out the holes into another pot. I’ve read before that this is for putting water in the outer pot for the roots to drink from rather than the soil so this is what I’ve done over the last week or two. Is this correct? Should I repot now and change soil? Is there any way to treat the mould? Thank you!
Fingers crossed I can keep this alive and thriving! 🤞
Unknown sarracenia from one of those dormant plant kits at Lowe’s excited to see what it will look like!
I have recently purchased a Venus fly trap. I was wondering how often I should feed it and will it get bigger because it is quite small at the moment.
🟡🔴😍
I received my Venus via mail Friday and repotted Monday… are they usually this droopy when you first wrap the moss, repot, etc.?
Been a few months since I posted on this app but my carnivores plants are finally growing after their first winter😍
Hey all! I just picked up 3 species of pitchers. St Gaya, Miranda, and a Black Miracle. From reading all of the posts on here I’m pretty confident I know when I need to remove pitchers and where to remove them from. I’m more concerned about light and repotting at this point. I asked before I left and the girl said these would all be ok for a little. 🤞🏻 very excited to have my first pitchers!
Hi all! I have a Cape Sundew that is now about 10 months old. It’s doing well overall and has new growth, but is getting a bit of a trunk (see second photo— reminds me of a fern tree). Is this ok for the plant’s health? I’m fine with it getting tall but I know some other plant types don’t do well with getting leggy. Also, how do you know when to repot? Thanks!
happy pitchers!!!
Hello! Brand new to flytraps and have 3 now. Trying to prepare for repotting in the soonish future and confused as many things say to set pot with drainage holes in an inch of water, while others say the plant thrives in terrariums. I understand terrariums lock in moisture more but also that setting the pot in water allows the plant to absorb water as needed but is one better than the other? Should i set a pot with drainage holes in a terrarium rather than using the terrarium as the pot itself (similar to one of the left in photo below) Photo of the three below in their temporary homes.
Just got the cutest ever group of pings today and got them settled in their new little home. Totally new to carnivorous plants but am excited to see how they do! Any solid advice on pings in particular? The soil is really well draining. In succulent phase I’m guessing they like to be a bit dry? (The Venus flytrap is also new to me in the last week)
first heliamphora😁
Why is my Venus fly trap drooping? I have it in a windowsill facing south and it gets direct sunlight all day. I have it in a tray of distilled water that’s up less than an inch and I only refill when it’s completely drained. The tray usually gives it enough humidity. It’s been floppy since I got it (and it WASNT in those plastic container things)
I’m thinking of getting my brother a Venus fly trap + pitcher plant combo I saw at my local nursery. Any care tips? He would keep it in his room.
My butterwort caught his first fly today. 🥲
Got this nepenthes a few weeks ago the oldest pitcher was dried out but had a few new ones growing in. The first of the new pitchers is about to open up. I feel like a proud mom they grow up so fast!
Update on Pete. Still looking a little rough, a bit droopy but to be fair the full sun hasn’t quite returned. He got his very first pink trap! It’s so cute. There’s also the one trap I fed which seems to be opening really slowly but I’ll update you all when that happens. I thought it might need more humidity and I was wondering if misting is okay as long as the plant itself isn’t getting wet if anyone knows about that let me know please. HAPPY EASTER!!!
