Hi! I just got my first pitcher plant! Heâs also my first carnivorous plant.
And I have a few questions,
1 How soon should I feed him?
Does he need a certain amount of time to adjust to his new home before I should try feeding him?
2 Kinda working off the first question but what is the best thing to feed them? Live crickets? Freeze dried crickets? Flies?
And where best to buy them?
And lastly,
Iâve seen some controversy on weather or not to put a little bit of water in the pitchers.
And if I should what type of water would be best (rain vs distilled vs filtered)?
Thank in advance!
William
I've heard a ton about what water is safe but l've also head people are using tap water in certain cities so I thought I'd throw out all my questions about the easiest watering options I have available to me to see which ones are safe and what I should be investing my time in.
Would fish tank water work with or without fish like can I use fish to prevent mosquitoes from breeding in a rain water container or use old fish tank water that would likely have fish poop in it) I am also already treating tons of city water to get rid of chlorine, chloramine and hard minerals but I think it still leaves some minerals in if it is not safe should I be worried about how I am storing rainwater (like if the container has metal components or is running off my roof that could pick up nutrients from decommissioning leaves) and for my last question would water from air conditioner dehumidifiers work or do I need to be concerned about what it may have come into contact in the attic (insulation, rusting metal, etc.)

Have my first flower stalk appearing on this Sundew! I was wondering if people always remove these or ever let them flower? Iâm not propagating this plant right now but am a bit interested in seeing the flowers if it doesnât draw too much energy

Hey everyone, does my vft look like itâs dying? The leaves/traps all seem stiff and lifeless. I tried feeding it a live insect tonight but none of the traps would trigger.
My plants are under grow lights for 10-12 hours a day, I mist them at least once a day and also have them sitting in a pool of distilled water.
Iâve grown VFT successfully in the past but this time around I feel like Iâm doing something wrong.
Any advise or input would be appreciated. đȘŽ

Got this Venus Flytrap a couple days ago from a kit and Iâm really worried I mightâve killed it already. I didnât know that tap and bottled water was harmful for them (watered it with both) and now I donât know what to do. It also might be in a dormant state atm but Iâm not sure. Is there any way I can save this?

Help! First-time Venus Fly Trap parent and it is not eating flies. Some of the leaves are browning and it seems a bit droopy. Can it be saved?

I wanted to create a bog bowl for a while and finally finished my little swamp corner. Peet moss mixed with Sphagnum moss with some Nepenthes, Drosera, and Venus Flytrap in a bowl. Wondering if the âbogâ is too deep or is too saturated. Any advice or feedback is welcomed

I got a dormant pitcher plant from a cheap kit, and itâs grown a ton since I got it but I still have no idea what kind it is. Itâs probably too early to tell, but I have a couple questions:
1. Are the tips of the leaves growing into pitchers?
2. Do pitcher plants go dormant, and if so how do I prevent or aid that?
3. What type might it be?
Thanks in advance!!

Hi all Iâm new to carnivorous plants and just recently picked up a sundew (drosera capensis) but have had trouble keeping it healthy, I have it planted in sphagna moss and sitting in a west facing window with lots of afternoon light, all my new sprouts seem to start tuning black immediately, any help is greatly appreciated

Hi guys -
I was repotting my Venus fly trap into carnivorous soil. Unfortunately I spilled the soil right on top of the fly trap - and it got ALL of it in every trap. I know I can just buy another one- but, can it be saved? Iâm not sure what to do. Every trap has soil in its mouth.
I always water with distilled water but in a panic tried to rinse it with our Brita filtered water. It didnât work - these traps are tight lol

Since I have VFT in the same room as some of my Hoyas. Do I have to you distilled water for my humidifier too?

Hi everyone!
Iâve recently started a new terrarium project and plant to house a couple different carnivorous plants in it (tropical pitchers, sundews, and pinguiculas).
The tank is about 2.5 by 1 foot and 1.5 feet tall, cleaned it up, disinfected it, and rinsed multiple times with distilled water to make sure the plants will not get killed.
So far i have about two inches of drainage, and an inch and a half of perlite-sphagnum moss mix (i have more arriving tomorrow, plan to have a thicker layer than that). I also have some growing lights to be added on top for the plants since there is very little direct sunlight in that part of my room.
Through the process iâve tried to find online resources but havenât been as successful in finding some as i would like (especially concerning ventilation!), so any comment/tip/feedback is appreciated!

Hey, Iâm wondering whatâs wrong with my VFT I feed it dead flies and they close but they soon open and the flies are still there. Is that normal?

Hi carnivorous corner! So my VFT havenât been eating for weeks almost a month! And it is because they are not getting enough light (working on that). But should I bye carnivorous plant food? I am worried it is not getting the right amount of nutrients to thrive. I was thinking about getting this fertilizer. But do you think they need it?
