Though it looks unrecognizable this is a North American pitcher plant I found at Zamzows yester it had tons of brown leafs on it after cutting them I put it outside and watered it with distilled water and it still looks bad how can I help it get better ps I live in Idaho and it’s summer I don’t have lots of money for expensive remedies
How it started and how it’s going. Placement was tricky as she kept getting scorched. I thought it was the sun itself but actually the little built in saucer on the pot just wasn’t holding enough water to withstand the Texas heat. Her leaves weren’t getting moisture and drying out, leading to sunburn. I ended up nixing the little saucer and put her in a white 2 gal bucket with a 1.5 inch water bath. Left her out in the open on the South side of the house all day in intense heat. Came home to find water still in the bucket, mix wet and not just moist, and the baby trap opened up with a blush pink inside. I feel like a winner lol
Help! My grow light fell and tried to decapitate my pitcher plant. What can I do about the casualties? Can I propagate the loose pitcher in distilled water? Also I just got the Venus fly trap and nepenthes, any advice as to what I should do to assist it. Is it in the right substrate, they were bought at a plant nursery so I’m not sure. Also can you over water your carnivores by putting too much water in the tray to bottom water? Do I need to mist the nepenthes so water makes its way in the pitcher? Any advice is welcome for a new carnivorous plant parent. Also going dormant, more on that plz. Thx so much 🌱🪴🦟
Brought my little baby Venus in from outside and while getting her adjusted to the grow light setup I noticed a little piece of cloth. Ended up taking her out of the soil and realized there is a wrapping on the root ball! When I initially repotted it, I thought it was part of the soil. I bet it feels so much better!
is this sunburn? my vft has been moved outside a little bit over a week ago. it was previously in a west window but now lives outside, facing east but gets direct sun for about 8-ish hours. these seem to be the only petioles affected. my NA pitcher next to it is also unaffected. if it helps, the shelves they sit on are partially covered by a tree, and the direct sun they get is dappled.
I went to the nursery in Florida, and they got a st gaya nepenthe and a sarracenia, I got a nepenthe Miranda

Look who I found hiding underneath all the leaves! I was pruning old pitchers when I found these two micro babies! For scale, the big fatty in front is about 3” long (excluding her lid), the baby in that first pic is about 1/2”, and the itty-bitty one is barely 1/4” 😱

I’m wondering if anyone knows how to encourage their pitcher plant to produce pitchers! I bought mine last summer and she had full grown pitchers that then died off during the fall. I trimmed off the original pitchers and some of her leaves, and shes consistently been growing new leaves as well as a baby plantlet, now a second plantlet is growing through right behind the first one as well. Light is bright indirect, and I water using only distilled water regularly. Misted at least once a week if not 2-3 times a week. She’s still putting out new leaves regularly! Throughout the first plantlet growing, there hasn’t been any development in pitchers themselves. This is my first carnivorous plant, and im not sure how to encourage pitcher growth! Any advice on how to fertilize when there arent pitchers would also be greatly appreciated :)
Hello everyone, I wanted to start getting carnivorous plants. I really would like a Venus fly trap however I’m nervous about killing it. I understand that it needs to eat bugs as well as being high humidity. Does anyone have any suggestions? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Yesterday, an ant infestation began in my home office/plant room. I noticed several of them crawling on my Hoyas and Nepenthes, which all produce a ton of EFN, even watched a few ants fall right into the Nepenthes pitchers! I set out some ant bait, but so far the ants are ignoring the bait and following each other into pitchers like lemmings off a cliff. Couldn't get any decently focused pics of my Ventrata pitchers but today they are BRIMMING with drowned ants and Lady Luck has caught her first one!
Hey, does anyone know whats happening to my nepenthes? It was growing really healthy and then its new growth starten turning brown.
I have a Venus flytrap and in past summers, planta has prompted me to Mist it. This year, it doesn’t seem like it has a mist schedule. Did care guidelines change? Thanks!

I recently got a Venus Flycatcher from Lowe’s and I got it out of the plastic box it was in, this is my first time caring for one so I definitely need tips on how to care for this lil guy. Also on one of the traps it has a black dot should I and how should I trim it off?
I’m now using the tray method for my nepenthes
Recently gotten the little guy from Lowe’s and repotted them since they were in a jar with next to 0 air flow. Now it’s living in a ceramic bowl with a bunch of moss. I’m new to carnivorous plants, how quickly do they grow? Is it doing good?
Hey everyone! I’ve had this ping with sundew hitchhikers for a while now and it’s doing great, ( using the tray method ) but I’m looking for some opinions about what to do about them when winter comes. Obviously, pings go dormant and sundews don’t, and pings need to dry out a bit when they are dormant. Would the sundews be ok with this? Or would the best course of action be to separate them when ping starts entering dormancy? Do I seperate them now, or when ping shows signs of dormancy? Ideally, I don’t want to mess with them/their roots, since they have been doing so well together so far. But I’m not sure how that would change if ping goes dormant and has to be watered less. I’m also concerned about the sundews encroaching on the ping. The sundews are growing surprisingly quickly. TLDR; Do I actually need to let the ping dry out more during dormancy? Will the sundews survive drying out a bit with the ping? And if they need to be separated, when is the best time, and how would I go about it without bothering the roots too much?
