They just keep coming š
My Venus fly trap has been turning black and getting holes on the mouths of it. Can anyone please help me?
Help meeeeee!!!!! My Sarracenia pitcher plant is sooooo droopy! I need help or I will cry- I donāt know why this is happening! It did this in a course of 4 hours! Was fine when we left but four hours later, itās base had turned brown and it began to droop! What am I doing wrong?
I got this a few days ago since a friend told me it could help with gnats (itās definitely caught a few since I brought it home). Iāve done a bit of research and I know they like lots of light and distilled water but other than that Iām so lost and really donāt want to kill it!! Iāve been keeping it in a little bit of water as i saw they donāt like to dry out, but I also saw somewhere to let them dry just a bit every so often? I donāt know. Can anyone give me some tips to give it a happy home :) watering (schedule?) and soil type would help tons!
I got another little Venus fly trap. So cuteš„ŗš„ŗ I know some about Venus fly traps from recent traps but I made need to be reminded. Any tips for care? I also have a question I know Venus fly traps naturally live in humid wet places and to water often. I didnāt mist with my other traps but would it help to mist the plant?
Any carnivorous plant advice would be very helpful! I got my first babies, one Venus fly trap thatās fairly okay, and two dormant carnivorous plants that Iām growing from a kit. I know that kits and stuff like that usually have wrong info, and Iāve done a ton of research so I know some things. My main question is what media to use. Right now the Flytrap is in entirely sphagnum moss, and the dormant plants are in peat moss with some wood fiber mixed in, according to the kit. Will that work, or do I need to make a perlite and peat moss mixture? I donāt have perlite right now, so I just did what I could. I also am not sure about water amount/frequency.
Hey everyone! So.. I bought a pitcher plant for myself and my boss. Apparently my death thumb is far less potent than hers - mine is thriving (Lil Dicki) and hers well, looks like it needs a pill(5 guys) Iām pretty sure she didnāt water it before the weekend. Do you think itās done for or is there hope for revival?
Hey there! I bought this Nepenthes 6 days ago & repotted her 3 days ago using a carnivorous plant mixture. I use distilled water always. Iām new-ish to these types of plants and accidentally repotted her into a terracotta pot without knowing they arenāt supposed to be⦠should I wait to repot her again to a plastic pot? How detrimental is terracotta? I donāt want her to stress out with a recent potting change. Thanks!
Hello! This is my Sarracenia, Terry. He is growing so fast, but I have one quick question. I am sort of new, but knowledgeable, about carnivorous plants! I have never grown them before, and this is my first Pitcher Plant. I donāt really know how to describe this- but his stem is āhollowā or ādentedā on one side, and the other side sort of looks big. ??? The pictures describe more than words š Just wondering if this is an issue- not sure how the growing process of these little guys are.
My Venus fly traps arenāt doing as well. I think I needed to clean out their water pan . It was disgusting.
Does anyone have a good source for carnivorous plants? Iām super interested but havenāt gotten one yet. Ideally, it would be online. Thanks!
Venusā Flytraps are very interesting, donāt you think? What about Sundews! They are too, but what about Pitcher Plants? They are super interesting, and iād love to share information about them! So, letās start with their soil, water, and sun requirements! Pitcher Plants, much like Venusā Flytraps, need peat moss, sphagnum moss, or any non-nutrient-rich soil! This is because they grow in the bogs and marshes of the Carolinas, in which their soil does not have any nutrients. Soil with nutrients in them can over-fertilize or burn your Pitcher Plant, although they are a little bit more tolerant than Venusā Flytraps when it comes to this aspect. Again, they live in the marshes and bogs of the Carolinas, where the soil AND water lack nutrients because rain water is filtered by the clouds. Very obvious, I know. But they are not like other plants, and need very different things. They need either reverse osmosis water, distilled water, or rain water that you have collected! Purified and tap water contain minerals that can, you guessed it, over fertilize or burn your plant and its roots. In the bogs where they live, they are constantly in water! So, that means that they require constant moisture. NEVER, NEVER EVER, let your Pitcher Plant dry out! They need mistings, and regular watering. If your Pitcher Plant begins to dry out, it will tell you by stopping their growth, and do not continue producing bigger, or more pitchers. Also, the leaves and pitchers may begin to turn yellow. Your Pitcher Plant needs sun! Not too much, or it will burn and become crisp and dry. Make sure, if it is indoors, to have it on a nice, bright windowsill. But, if it is on a south-facing window, it may get too much light. Be sure to pay close attention to you plant to point out any marks or burns, this will be a good sign that you need to move it to a shadier condition. But remember, they can get too LITTLE sun, as well. Now, carnivorous plants interest many people, mainly because they can eat insects, frogs, arachnids, and even mice and rats! Lizards can also be seen eaten by a Pitcher Plant. Remember, what the Pitcher Plant eats depends on the size and type of your plant. If it is indoors, it may need some help getting food. Unlike Venusā Flytraps, they can be fed dead animals and insects. When your pitcher plant is smaller, it can be fed freeze dried bloodworms, crickets, or really anything that ISN'T human food! Feeding them human food can cause them to die or weaken, so jelly beans, hamburgers, spaghetti, and any human food that you can think of, is not suitable for your Pitcher Plants! I hope you have a great day, and I will try to continue posting short things like this, but in the meantime, bye! (Sorry if it annoys you how much I post, but it is summer, sooooā¦)
I wanted it and I got it š„° absolutely love carnivorous plants!! When I was younger I couldnāt keep a plant alive to save my life, now that Iām grown and have more knowledge Iām super stoked to try again. Especially since there are people on here that will help me along the way! Thank you all in advance!
I am so glad they took the name suggestion someone gave me! It was very creative and I enjoy carnivorous plants, and maybe one day I will get a greenhouse and fill it to the brim with them!
My newest carnivorous plant!!
