hello everyone, meet twinky—my first carnivorous plant.. i’ve had her for about two weeks now and yesterday i moved her to a new pot and switched her over to a new potting mix. the place i got her from had her in some soil with small pieces of perlite and bark and i replanted her in a mixture of equal parts sphagnum moss, perlite, and orchid bark. i also removed some yellow/wilting leaves (already like that when i got her) since being repotted one of her pitchers has squeezed shut! i’m a little nervous because i really want her to thrive.. she’s gotten water recently and i also mist her a few times a day. is this just her adjusting to being repotted or is there a problem i need to address? any advice is appreciated
Hi, so this is my first time with a baby Venus fly trap and it seems to be sick I just got it yesterday and it hasn’t been watered or fed yet (the soil/moss it’s planted in is wet) I don’t know what’s wrong and how to help I cut off the dead one but I want this little guy to thrive what do I do?!
So sad! This fly trap was doing so well until I moved it from this south facing window into my little green house. It did NOT do well so I moved it back to its original home by the window… what can I do?
My sweet carnivorous babies!!
Just wanted to share my collection of pings and nepenthes :)
Hi, I just received my first carnivorous plant as a gift and can’t help but notice the dead leaves. Should I remove them or is there another solution and any suggestions are appreciated
help!!! what’s happening to my pitcher plant?!
I have some experience with pitcher plants (meaning I’ve kept one alive but dormant for 4 years😂) but I just got my first trumpet pitcher plant. Any advice would be great! Also, are the trumpets supposed to be curly? Or should I cut those off?
I never purposely fed my fly trap live food. The left and middle were two separate plants that had both grew long flowering stems. The right most stem is one of the cuttings Ive made from those stems. I only recently cleaned up the competing moss around the plants and read I shouldnt have let the plants flower to the point it had. Is that why Im getting a lot of leaves but stunted traps?
My sundew is blooming a flower stem! 😍
wanted to share the cute new little pitcher that’s growing in 🥺
why could the new growth be browning? i lost its bubbles because i moved it to far away from the window i’m pretty sure so i don’t think it’s burnt?
I bought this Venus fly trap 4 days ago and looked up on google how to take care of it but I don’t think I’m doing too well… this is Marsha she’s in the pea moss she came in and in the dish was water but the app told me she’s over watered. What are the steps of making her healthy again.
Asking for sundew help again! I’ve been experimenting with propagating leaf and root trimmings in water and just noticed some cute little plantlets forming on this drosera binata root. Does anybody with more experience have any advice for next steps? I’ve read it can either be placed just in top of som CP soil or buried just below the surface? Thanks for all the advice 😊
Sorry I have been posting a lot but I need to know I just got this Venus Flytrap at the store should I take it out of this plastic case? One more thing should I feed it? I don’t have many flies in the house that it could chow down on and if I am supposed to feed it what should I feed? Ants, bugs?
Hi! I just got my first pitcher plant! He’s also my first carnivorous plant. And I have a few questions, 1 How soon should I feed him? Does he need a certain amount of time to adjust to his new home before I should try feeding him? 2 Kinda working off the first question but what is the best thing to feed them? Live crickets? Freeze dried crickets? Flies? And where best to buy them? And lastly, I’ve seen some controversy on weather or not to put a little bit of water in the pitchers. And if I should what type of water would be best (rain vs distilled vs filtered)? Thank in advance!
I've heard a ton about what water is safe but l've also head people are using tap water in certain cities so I thought I'd throw out all my questions about the easiest watering options I have available to me to see which ones are safe and what I should be investing my time in. Would fish tank water work with or without fish like can I use fish to prevent mosquitoes from breeding in a rain water container or use old fish tank water that would likely have fish poop in it) I am also already treating tons of city water to get rid of chlorine, chloramine and hard minerals but I think it still leaves some minerals in if it is not safe should I be worried about how I am storing rainwater (like if the container has metal components or is running off my roof that could pick up nutrients from decommissioning leaves) and for my last question would water from air conditioner dehumidifiers work or do I need to be concerned about what it may have come into contact in the attic (insulation, rusting metal, etc.)
Have my first flower stalk appearing on this Sundew! I was wondering if people always remove these or ever let them flower? I’m not propagating this plant right now but am a bit interested in seeing the flowers if it doesn’t draw too much energy
