   there are some great tips for specofic problems in other comments in the Carn. cCorner, but i'll put some general here for convience: soil/water VFTs are bog plants, so they like to stay in a constantly moise medium. most people use sphagnum moss with a mix of perlite! there are also carnivourus mixes you can buy, but just make sure they are free of any fertilizer and minerals. this can burn your plant; VFTs receive their nutrients from their food, so regular fertilizer should be avoided. for watering, you can use use rain, reverse osmosis, or distilled water! i have my carnivourus plant in a nursery pot with draining inside another pot that holds water. let it sit in a few inches of water at all times, top off water when needed. if you use tap or fertilizer in the water, this will also burn the traps, and kill your plant. light VFTs actually like a lot more light than most people think! they like 6-8 hours of DIRECT light a day, but if this isnt possible in your brothers room, give it as much light as possible. it will still be able to live, but it wont have as much red in the traps, and growth will be slower. if you cant get direct light for that amount of time, you can invest in a grow light! feeding! since you are keeping it inside, you are going to aant to manually feed your VFT once to twice a month. pick one trap (if you have a single plant), and that one trap will feed the entire plant until its next feeding! the things you can feed are any live bug that comfortably fits in the trap! you can get insects at grocery stores, or any pet store that sells insects for reptiles! meal worms keep the longest in the fridge, and enter a dormant stage, so you dont have to worry about doing anything for them. hope this helps!!
