What's growing in my pot? ps Due to potting it a little low, getting full sun is not really possible. This is all grow light. pps I still haven't clipped the flower.

    That’s just moss growing, it won’t harm your plant.

      Thank you. I figured it was innocuous, but was kinda hoping for "It's a hybrid!" haha.

      The moss is the growing medium you’re Venus fly trap is planted in.

      Oh sheesh, that makes sense. Ps I know this plant looks like a mess. I didn’t prepare for it to live this long.

      Did your plant flower (due to the obvious dead flowers and flower stem), because if so, it means you’re plant is in good health and not sick because it would have died if your plant was in poor health when it flowered.

      It did! I was so pleased. It bloomed for weeks and then solidified.

    Moss is actually good. Especially with carni's... cuz if the moss start dying, it can be an initial sign of something going wrong with water, ph, or nutrients. So you can fix it.

    If you are only going to grow it indoors make sure you have a grow light that has full spectrum, also a majority of carnivorous plants do very well in plastic planters. Also don't forget to give your plant a dormancy perperiod so that they don't get root rot, they are perennial and will come back in the spring. The plants need drainage and dosen't like to sit in water for long periods. Try getting a water trays that will help with monitoring how much they're drinking after a couple days. You can place them in a zip lock bag in the fridge for overwintering. The traps will get bigger and stay healthy after the winter when they wake up in spring

    Also if you want to place them outside use a screen cloth for shade from the sun. I've learned the hard way that they tend to scorch on long hot days. But keeping them inside is not going to be bad either. Feed them live bugs if you can. If not you can stimulate the traps by gently squeezing them to mimic it has caught something, at least 3 to 4min. Wait one minute, then repeat.

    Cut off the flower stem if you are not planning to produce seeds. The flower stem uses a lot of the plants energy and takes away from the rest of the plant. It's not going to harm anything. The plant will produce more traps on it's own.
