New to the carnivorous plant corner. I think I have two different types of pitcher plants. I have seen them on natgeo nature documentaries various times and found them at my local farmers market. The only thing I have to figure out is the soil for these beauties. I don’t know if I should mix my own and what type of soil they sell for carnivorous plants?

Beautiful Nepenthes! You can buy premixed carnivorous soil that should be fine, but I personally mix my own. It gives me more control to adapt the mix with my plants needs. I’ve found sometimes the premixed soil can hold too much moisture and water log my plants. Their soil mix should remain only slightly damp. If it is wet for too long it will cause problems and could kill the plant.

I agree, premixed carnivorous soil is the way to go. I got mine on Amazon. Local nursery may have some too

I use long sphagnum and a little bark. The grower included the moss in the box so I decided it must be fine if that’s what they recommend.
