I added a special new little guy to my plant shelf. This squirrel was my Grandfather's favorite knick-knack. If this squirrel ever went missing, my Grandfather would have a fit lol. My Grandfather passed away over a year ago in January of 2022. We were really close and he made my childhood very special. He was a plant guy; had flowers planted all over his garden and kept his back and front yards looking nice and full of green and color! With that being said, it was a no-brainer to put his favorite squirrel among my plants and have a piece of him live on in my (indoor) garden. My Grandmother said my Grandfather never gave it a name. I think I'll name him William (Billy), after my Grandfather. đđżïž

My long-suffering Raphidophora Tetrasperma has finally sprouted some new growth! Now I can move him out of the quarantine corner of shame :)
My plants are starting to show their enthusiasm for Spring. Buds, shoots and blooms are bringing life back from winter.
Letâs see everyoneâs plant rooms! Iâll start with my place where I had to figure out moving from a perfect east facing window to grow lights and a small west facing window.
Iâve been propagating this monstera deliciosa since 12/20/22. One even popped out a new leaf! Iâm guessing theyâre very happy. Lol Iâll be transferring them into leca soon. Any advice? âš
YESTERDAY: âOh the snow is all gone!! YAY! SPRING! đ„łđžđ· Iâll go out, refresh and paint the legs on my planting boxes so theyâre ready!â TODAY:
My jade leaf grew some rootsđ sĂșper excited
My babies after a plant care day
Thereâs so much snow where I live so I brought home some spring feeling to brighten up my day đ These will later be planted outside in my garden, after it has wilted. What are your favourite spring plants?
I was lucky enough to find a Hoya Krimson Princess for a really good price at a big box store. Unfortunately it had spidermites, and my go-to safe pesticides were not working on eliminating them. I was nervous to try diluted alcohol due to a past experience I had when I used it on a calathea that died after spraying it with 1:3rd 70% alcohol & water so I figured to try the next thing that everyone was suggesting: Dish soap. I picked a gentle newborn dish soap, diluted it well and to my horror it burned some of my Hoyaâs leaves. I have since switched to using peppermint oil mixed with hydrogen peroxide and it seems to be doing the trick but I just wanted to put it out there for plant parents- beware of using alcohol and dish soap to get rid of pests. It sucks that itâs the first suggestion when researching how to end a spider mite infestation but they are both toxic to plants + soil even when diluted (and out of bright sun) it sucks to both loose a plant or a handful of leaves in an already stressful situationâ ïžhoping my bald Hoya bounces back soonđ„Č
FRIDAY!! And itâs here - the weekend when this cutie, and all my other other roommates I have (except for my hubby and daughter), are going to get some new soil. Is anyone else up for the repotting challenge this weekend? đđȘŽ
Does anyone else find cats in their outdoor planters? There are a few in my streetâs colony that love to dig around, sit, and nap in mine. I almost donât mind some of my plants getting squished because itâs so cute!
Just curious does anyone use self watering bulbs? Are they a good way to water plants and if so, which kind of plants would do better with them? Found some super cute ones on Etsy but donât want to buy them if they wonât be an effective way to water
General tipâŠIâm using little pieces of pipe insulation on my small weeping ficus to ânudgeâ branches away from each other so their bark isnât damaged while growing up.
Can you add a way to input starting plants from seed? The initial care schedule will be a bit different as well. Also propagation from cuttings!
Do we have any Staghorn fern fans over here? đđż I find them to be one of the most forgiving and interior friendly plants. Super easy to grow. I grow mine in epiphytic soil mix and water it on the saucer đȘŽ - I also find the scientific name of this species funny: âSuper bumâ đ
They woke up!
