Hey everyone. I’m in Canada and obviously my plants are indoors and it’s winter. My question is this, are you meant to fertilize your house plants during the winter months? Thank you!

I got this Orchid Coarse Soil Amendment mix from Home Depot. Can monsteras survive with just this? It’s a very fast draining soil.

Hello everyone! I have a Petra Croton and for some reason it’s stayed like this for months. No death, no growth nothing! I’ve tried doing a pebble tray for humidity but I don’t think it works (at least for me). Any ideas how to stimulate the growth? Thank you! @sustain_planetearth on ig

I was recently gifted Meyer lemon and limequat trees and I am DESPERATELY trying to make sure I keep them happy. They have a grow light, and are also in a south facing window. I put them in my plant list, but the watering/misting suggestions seem a little crazy. Planta is telling me not to water the Meyer lemon for a month, and not to mist it at all. Is that right? Everything I’ve read says they should be misted almost daily… Any tips for a beginner citrus grower are greatly appreciated!

The cashier at a nursery once told me not to fertilize my indoor plants during the winter months. Is this a thing?? I live in ND so winter is basically Oct-April. I have grow lights on every day through the winter. Many of them have been shedding leaves but growing back a little more full with fertilizing so I don’t really want to stop!! But also want to give them a rest if they need it??

kind of a random post but thoughts on this giant aloe? i do think i need to add more soil to the pot but i cannot figure out why the leaves are so droopy? i have only watered her twice since the beginning of november and i was watering about once a month in the warmer seasons. do the leaves just get so big they fall like this? also the leaves are firm and there is newer growth in the middle (but has slowed dramatically since i live in Pennsylvania and the sun hasn’t shined consistently in weeks) i feel like the base looks rotted but it’s been this way since my bf almost killed it 2 years ago and it only gets repotted in July and at the time the roots looked great. i hate this plant but my bf loves it so i try to keep it happy but i don’t love the way it looks right now šŸ˜‚

I’ve had this lemon lime philodendron for about two weeks now, and it has a lot of new growth but the leaves don’t seem to be unfurling. It has been under a grow light, about maybe 8 inches from it and slightly to the side. Does anyone know if there’s something wrong with it or does it just take that long for the leaves to unfurl?

Can we talk soil mix? I think it’s really important. Especially if you want your plants to thrive! With spring quickly approaching Planta is sure to start recommending to repot all of your plants. šŸ˜‚ And it’s the season for fungus gnats! šŸ˜©šŸ˜‚ The next time you repot, consider what soil mix is best for your plants. I’m an overwaterer so I prefer a chunky airy mix. (Otherwise known as an aroid mix.) Now this is more then just adding some bark to a bag of soil. The problem with that is both of these materials retain moisture. šŸ¤” The last thing anyone wants is fungus gnats! Personally I like to use a combination of bark, coco chips and or coconut husks along with some CHUNKY perlite, CHUNKY horticulture charcoal and even some limestone. It should be airy and fast draining. Trust me, I was once that plant parent that thought unamended bag soil was good enough. 🤫 But honestly their soil mix is nothing like what the plant would be getting in its natural environment. šŸ‘ŽšŸ½ In it’s natural environment there’d be a mixture of soil, bark, tree branches and even rock! (Depending on the plant of course) If you are an overwaterer like me or having a hard time with pests like fungus gnats that are drawn to moist soil, do yourself a favor and check out the ton of videos on YouTube on DIY soil or check out the tutorial on Plants (the one thing I’d add is horticultural charcoal 😊). I promise, your plants will thank you for it! 🪓🪓🪓 In the meantime, what type soil mix do you use? What type of amendments do you add? Do you make your own or purchase it? Attached is a picture of my chunky mix. And a picture of a mix I purchase from BWH when I don’t want to make my own. Happy planting! 😊🪓
