Mikel’s Plant Posse

Hi plant people! I’m using a self watering (wick system) pot for the first time with the Moon Valley Pilea I bought at Walmart. It, and the soil, were pretty dry at first. I’ve filled the reservoir about 3 times and it’s emptied every time. Now the soil is pretty damp…is Marvin that thirsty? Or do I need to not worry about keeping the reservoir filled?

I think i got thrips or gnats? Ive have plants for a couple years but i recently bought a ton since spring here 😅. I cant tell which plant it’s coming from because I have them all on one plant stand as I have a kid and a cat. I also keep them together to help a little bit with the humidity for some of my plants that need high humidity and I know that pests enjoy that. I tried to let the soil dry out completely to avoid this, but we all come across this eventually. I just haven’t dealt with this before now I’m treating with those yellow sticky traps everywhere to get adult adults and now I want to treat the larvae or any babies. I’m going to go to the store today to grab some stuff and I was thinking of some mosquito bits and a spray. What would you recommend recommendations be to help with this so I can go out and buy some products to help them

Would most ppl agree that peperomias are semi succulent as far as watering? And soil should be 50-70% dry before watering? For the 5 or 6 peperomias I have, the care info in planta says to let the top layer dry out. I interpret that as just 1-2”. What does everyone think??? So double check and do some research. Don’t just rely on this app for your plant care needs Pic for attention 😊

What are these dots on my kale and bok choy? I thought they were leaf miners but they aren't the same tubular shape. They're whitish still but with a bit more yellow in them. They were already present, then I sprayed White Oil (veg oil + dawn) and they seemed to spread to the bok.

Okay plant peeps- finally repotting my madagascar dracaena after it put out triplette pups (the beckys) a couple yrs ago and then they ate their parents😒🙄RUDE. It took me a bit but i unknotted the roots😳. I may have waited too long to repot😆. Question 1: should i shorten these roots or just wrap those babies into the new pots and soil? Questuon 2: in the bottom 2 pics you can see how the pup is attached to the side of the base of her top cropped father but has its own long root. Daddio has started to sprout new shoots from the chop, should i leave those 2 together or can i reasonable cut the cord and make her move out?

Do alocasia’s have bulbs? I think I overwatered mine, and I was left with nothing but a stump, that turned mushy. Getting to the bottom (literally) of this plant I came across this. Never dealt with a plant with a bulb before. Roots are white which to me means there might be hope for the plant to bounce back… right??😬 I just soaked it in a hydrogen peroxide solution bath to kill off any other root rot garbage. Any tips on making the plant bounce back from here?

Fungus Gnat Advice Hey everyone! I have 30+ houseplants I adore but have the worst infestation of fungus gnats. Diatomaceous earth is helping and I am drying them out now and adjusting schedule. Does anyone have a Neem Oil they like or anything else? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi! I knocked over my little spider plant and when he came out of the pot, the roots are very bound! Should I repot him into a slightly larger pot while he’s out? He has been growing so well I kind of want to leave as is, but his roots were starting to grow out of the pot, so I wonder if now would be the time to repot?

Do the Calathea Freddie produce flowers? I just got calatheas and don't know what to expect. What do I do aside from taking photos? Lol

I’m looking for suggestions. I have one single plant left of ivy. She’s still going strong and has been thriving under a grow light. Im loving it! But now she’s gotten really long! Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can present her better? Should I repot her with some sort of wire trellis to wrap it around? I threw some pothos cuttings in to help it grow. I heard they can help. Many thanks in advance!!

Hi everyone. Beginner plant mom here. I recently acquired a young Myrtle tree. I repotted it yesterday into a terracotta pot with drainage. This is the first tree I have owned and am looking for advice and tips on caring for this tree. It came with the moss, should I keep that? How often should I trim and shape it? Planta is telling me that during these months I need to water everyday, but that feels like a lot to me. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey! So I’m pretty new to this plant journey and I have a pretty nice arrangement of plants indoors. I was wondering if I needed a humidifier? Is that just like a mandatory thing or can I live without one?

This morning my pothos was dripping water from its leaves! Is that normal!??
