Would love to start a thread for everyone to share their favorite names for plants. Feel free to share as many as you want! Just thought it’d be a fun thread to make for anyone stumped on coming up for a name. I’ll start! A few of my favorites for cacti include Spike, Pickles, Prickles, Terry, Fluffy, and Cuddles. Another example: this is my Variegated Jade Plant, Valerie. Some other ones I’ve used include Penny, Julie, Lily and Molly (they’re twins), Wanda, Xochitl (Xochi, for short. I’m Raramuri and wanted to use a Nahuatl name in honor of the succulent being native to Mexico), Elena, Aslan, and Lucy.

Wow! I have never seen a variegated jade plant before. Totally awesome! Some of my plant names are Pepper (peperomia), Drake (dracaena), Zirra (ZZ plant), Jade (obviously a jade), Tahani (bird nest snake), Patty (poly Alocasia) just to name a few šŸ˜‡

Love it! Val here is a very hardy lil miss! She was very dehydrated, leaning on one side, and covered in earwigs when I opened her package from Etsy 😱 (mini heart attack included. I thought they were roaches), but I soaked her in some hydrogen peroxide and water for half an hour and she started looking like this after 2 days. She’s a new favorite of mine. The variegation was too tempting to pass up on, but I’ve definitely learned my lesson about buying plants online šŸ˜…

And I was thinking about naming my newest Peperomia Pepper (I have another one named Penny), but I’m also considering Renee, Lois, Tia, and Sylvie/Sylvia. Still stumped on this one.

I also have a golden pothos named Prissy who looks ā€œfunā€ to me like your peperomia plant. She (or he) needs a fun name! Happy hunting!

Ya got a photo of it you’d like to share? Maybe the future commenters on the post can help you come up with one! And might I suggest Phoebe (after Phoebus, or Apollo, the Greek/Roman sun god)?

I used to have names for everyone, then they started making too many babies, so now I name the ā€œfamilyā€ of plants. I have: The Salazar Dominion (Snake Plants), Iroh’s Dynasty (Lucky Bamboo), La Ramba Familia (La Ramba Coelus), Team Rocket (started with two Kosmic Painted Succulents named Jessy and James), The Golden Girls (Golden Pothos), Jerry’s Dynasty (Spider Plants), Vera the Aloe, and Jig the Fig. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ I used to have a cactus named Rick the Prick. But he sadly diedšŸ’€

Mama Salazar already has three other pups in her pot. I’m just waiting for the youngest to mature before repotting everyone and adding MORE to the Salazar family. Haha.

Those are all hilarious. Kudos to the ATLA reference with Iroh. Loved that show when I was little. I’ve only got one so far that’s from a previous plant (my lil girl, Lucy, that’s a cutting from my 30 year old jade, Aslan, who himself is a cutting from my abuela’s 50/60+ jade plant. She’s who got me into plants and gardening, so in honor of her, I name all the jades and any plants that were ones she made arrangements from (she was an artist in her spare time, and made fake arrangements from paper, feathers, little bonsai gem trees with craft store jewelry beads and gemstone pendants. She was amazing.) or had around after her or one of her interests. I recently bought a new jade from the nursery she bought her original jade plant from, so i named it after her. Her name’s Elena.

And THIS behemoth is her 50/60+ jade. She was ridiculously magical with plants. For reference, this jade is about 3 1/2 to 4 ft tall. My aunt prunes it and gives the cuttings to all of my cousins and I, and each of my abuela’s daughters was given a cutting when they got their own homes so they’d have ā€œa piece of her home in theirsā€. My 30 year old is my mom’s cutting from when she bought herself a townhome.
