Hello, this is the first tradescantia I’ve owned. When I got it it was only like five inches long and now it’s well over five feet, which I’m super happy about, but it’s very small. Does anyone know how I can make it a little bushier? Right now it’s only like three long vines and I’m wondering if cutting it and propagating would work but I’m nervous to lose a bunch of length. Just wanting to learn :) it’s also got a new little one coming off the top so idk if I should just wait and see if it gets bushier on its own

It needs a lot more indirect light. It is etiolated based on the large gaps between the leaf nodes. More light will darken the color and bring out variegations in plants. Add a grow light or more natural light. It shows some signs of branching which can give the fullness. More light means more branches. Adding more vines to the pot will give it fullness. Propagate the cuttings. I would cut off most of the vines leaving about a 1 foot length. It sounds brutal. But, the weight of the long vines will begin to pull down the plant causing breakage. It is better to start with shorter vines that branch above the rim. Regularly fertilize in the warm months. 🪴🍀

Whenever my tradescantia plants start seeming a little leggy, I just cut the longer branches off a bit, poke a hole in the dirt with a chopstick or pencil, then stick those cut off pieces directly back into the pot into the holes I made. Easy peasy. Makes for a beautiful, bushy, full plant.
