Does anyone know why philodendrons are so expensive? I’m on the hunt for ā€œthe oneā€ for my plant collection, but all I’ve come across are like $35+ for a little one?

What kind are you looking for? There are many many common varieties that are cheap but the rarer they get the more expensive they’ll be (as with any plant)

They tend to be more expensive because they are slower to grow, normally or in TC. So they are more expensive. Vs like a syngonium or some other faster growing and multiplying plants.

Considering my collection, $35 is cheaper šŸ˜† 🤣 but maybe you could find someone selling cuttings? Or maybe try a different store? Pink princess i have was $10, the dark cherry i have was i belive $15 both as starter plants from TheGreenEscape on etsy/palmstreet

Maybe check Lowe’s or Home Depot, if you have one in your area! I’ve seen some pink princess and white shield philodendrons for $25!

I forget whether it was lowes or home depot, but one of them had TC starter philodendrons for like $5-10 each. Also try checking back repeatedly to watch for sales; plants that start at $25-30 often drop down to $10-15 as they linger past peak season

Thank you so much everyone! I appreciate your help. A philodendron may come across your feed in the near future lol
