Hey guys , kinda new to being a plant mom. My grandma got me a plant and Planta just identified it as being a Canna Lily which is supposed to be outside. Iâm in an apartment so I canât plant it in the ground. Can I get a big rectangle planter and it still survives or no ? Thanks guys

0 gillningarIâm not familiar with them. Pretty sure milkweed is outdoors and ginger Iâm a little less sure of but Iâm still leaning toward outdoors. Doesnât your grandmother know what it is? Where did she get it?

If this is a canna lily (I canât immediately identify your plant), it is a perennial plant and will inevitably die, but when it does, keep the ârootâ chunk and youâll be able to plant it again next year!

It is a canna lily. Theyâre one of my favorites. Theyâre meant for outdoors because theyâre sun worshippers. Youâre definitely gonna want to repot it in a large/deep container. Iâm talking anywhere from 10â-16â if itâs a taller hybrid, and it looks like it is. Theyâre often grown as a thriller in a combination planter. They do spread though, so itâll eventually fill out the pot if you plant it by itself.

It looks like a canna lily to me too, just slimmer than mine. Iâm starting to think I might not see a flower this year because sheâs only gotten 3-4 hours of sun a day and thatâs going down fast.

0 gillningar My canna lily has been living inside my apartment for 2.5 years and has continuously grown. There was a period in there where he was solely just surviving and Iâm nursing him again through a move into a new place. They are actually tough to kill. Youâll be ok keeping yours in your apartment.
