How do u parents do it when u have over 100+ plants n chores when u have kids?? It took me around 6 hrs to water and clean them all today. I feel I haven’t made time for myself so I’ve been slacking on my plants but I feel better now they’re all cleaned up and taken care of. I’m disappointed in myself but a majority of them weren’t watered for at least a week. How do u make time to complete tasks for ur plant babies when barely having time to even sleep? šŸ˜ž I’ve just been dreading all of it. I’m hoping this won’t happen again. TIA

That’s a lot of plants for when you have kids and other things. I didn’t start my plant obsession until after my kids were adults.

I’m sorry I didn’t mean to be negative in anyway just sharing I understand how hard it is to do all those things at the same time. 😊

DITTO!! I could have NEVER done it with the same amount I have now when my kids were little! After mine left and went off to school was when I went from just a few ā€œhardyā€ varieties to a straight up obsession of every type I could get my hands on! šŸ˜‚ I think they are what actually got me through my ā€œempty nestā€ phase so I’m very grateful to all of them and remind myself of that when I start to feel overwhelmed and think about gifting some of them….for about 5 seconds! šŸ˜‚

Hey! I can relate. I have a toddler and just had my second born in August, I have about 30-40 plants. I remind myself the kids are more important and they will only be young for a short time so it’s important to soak up the time I have. But the plants… I enjoy them so much but yeah they take time but what time do I have. Sometimes the plants get a little neglected. I try to just do quick checks throughout the week and maybe just water a couple a day. As for repotting and other care I try to include my toddler which she enjoys but it can get messy. Anyway it’s nice to know other moms have plants and struggle as well.

I only have a 17 mos old he’s got a lot of medical needs. I work and on my days off they’re usually filled with dr appts or running errands/keeping up on the house. I definitely agree with the resilience of the plants. Thank goodness. But I will do checks thru out the week so I won’t end up overwhelmed. There’s one plant that hit the fan and it was stunning a week ago šŸ˜ž but just needs extra TLC now. A LOT of yellowed leaves thruout my collection😪 thank u lady šŸ«¶šŸ½ and yes I don’t regret being there for my little. I cherish those too ā™„ļø time def goes by too fast and I try to slow it down as much as I could

Hey - never be disappointed in yourself for doing your very best. What I heard is that you maintained and cleaned over 100 plants when you have children which is a phenomenal feat. Additionally, most plants are better off being underwater than overwatered so at least if you have a hard week they’ll survive. 😊 You could try self watering devices? I’ve never used them, but I’ve heard good things. Are your kids old enough that they could help mom and be involved in the process? At the end of the day, if it comes to making time for yourself or watering a plant - make time for yourself you need it

I would like one hug from u pls. Thank u so much 😭 and yes I’m def an underwaterer. I’m not messing around with rot lol. The self waterers are nice for sure! I only have a few but filling them I tend to procrastinate but thank u for the reminder to not be guilty for making sure I stay ok ā£ļø

It’s really hard not to set the expectation level for yourself as perfection, I get it. But you definitely have to put on your oxygen mask first on the plane before you can help others right? Stay strong mamas. Give yourself grace.

Plants should enrich your life, not bring more stress. I have a 4 and 7 year old. I’ve tried to get them involved by helping name the plants so they’re more interested in helping care for them. My 7yo likes to use the water meter and my 4yo likes to do misting. It’s not always the case, but I find i can actually do more (tho not always faster) when I have my ā€œhelpersā€. Also - I’ve gotten better and letting go of plants that are too fussy or struggling. I don’t do rehabs or rescues. And I definitely have found that I will let tasks pile up and then I’ll just mist the whole house in one walk through. I also don’t do anymore more than ā€œgoodā€ on the status updates and will only take new pics or adjust status if there’s impressive new growth or after a repot. You got this!!!!

I don't have kids but have babysat a bit. Depending on the kids' ages, I'd try to get them to help out. You can show them all of the plants and teach them their names, let them watch how you care for the more difficult ones and then let them water the easy ones. (Hype up the rarer and more challenging ones and grant them permission to help gradually by level of difficulty, so it's a reward that they want to do.) Once they're old enough you can give them their own plants/seeds. They can learn a lot from it, like biology, nature appreciation, delayed gratification, and responsibility. You can also gift, sell, or otherwise downsize your collection to meet your current needs. You can always rebuy anything you find yourself missing later on

Thanks a lot! I love a good majority of them to not let go but there are a couple I could go without- just doesn’t satisfy my interest. I will consider rehoming them later on. I like a challenge so I don’t mind the tedious ones but like an other said- I too let tasks pile up when I’m going thru a drought. I’m glad and excited for my little to share this love with me. He loves looking at them already and sees how much I do with them. I’m already so happy

Running up on 200 plants 😩 I get it. I find most plants gathered in the same room or same area can get put on schedules together the ones that are sort of alike. Most plants do not need the ā€œweekly waterā€ they can do 10-12 days also and some even longer. Get a schedule together maybe for the ones that have the same type of water schedule. Cleaning and pruning are great but it can slack a bit as long as eventually you get to it. Sometimes they are lucky I have time to water in sections others I water and clean at same time and that all depends in ā€œmyā€ time. Don’t drive yourself crazy. Breathe and take it day by day. You matter… your sanity first 😊

I definitely find that having a majority of them on the same schedule helps TREMENDOUSLY!! And there are days when I need ā€œmeā€ time and have to put off my plant tasks for a day or two and it’s never killed any of mine to do so! You certainly don’t want to stress yourself out if you need to give yourself a break!
