I usually name my plants something similar to the name they have, or I just try calling them names and see what fits š
5 gillningarI was thinking Grandma and Grandpa for two of mine since Iāve had them about 20 years. But some I was thinking Pothos1, Pothos2, etc. and felt bad š
2 gillningarHi there! I love your plant wall/shelf it is so nice Some of my plantsā names are similar to the plantās name like animals&plants said, but some of them are based on characteristics of each plant or other interests I have (if you scroll through my profile youāll probably see what i mean). Happy plant naming š„³š±
1 gillaThank you! And Iām about to stalk you lol ⦠I need ideas!
0 gillningarSo far I only have one with an actual name, which is my arrowhead confetti, which I named Apollo. Instead, I have been using the plant name part to give the actual names if Planta doesnāt have them and I have to pick a similar plant (like adding variegated to a lot of them that Planta doesnāt have the variegated version), or for adding advanced characteristics, like revert, sport, aurea, etc (see photo). Oh, also, for hybrid names, like Pinguicula emarginata x moctezuma
2 gillningarI have a spider (Gwen) plant that I decided to propagate now I have spidey bby 1, 2 and 3 lol
2 gillningarI have propagated my Pothos many times over the years, so I have several generations! Crazy! I just got my first spider plant so fingers crossed with it!
1 gillaNice I have my pothos itās growing like crazy might need to propagate soon. I just remember I named the mother Gwen and the rest have spider verse names (Peter, miles)

I have about 130 plants, so when I look at them in list format I like to see them grouped mostly to genus, so Iāll do what I think is scientific name = genus + species. I still have more to learn about botanical taxonomy though. So a pothos njoy would be: Epipremnum aureum 'n'joy' But Iām not consistent across all plant types in doing that. Like for ferns I put fern at the front like āFern crocydyllusā. Basically in an effort to keep to a grouping. Iām guessing this naming structure is pretty common though: Pothos neon Pothos golden Pothos marble queen Pothos global green Etc.
1 gillaI like that idea! And 130, holy cow! Once I get more organized and app figured out, Iāll get more plants.
1 gillaLike others have said I stick close to their given name but tweak it a bit. For example, marble queen pothos is Warble, white wizard philodendron is Merlin etc. But I am loving the suggestions youāre getting!
1 gillaI have named one 'please grow' lol

I give mine actual names lol. Sometimes theyāre similar to their original; like using the first letter, sometimes itās after a characteristic. I just have fun with it! Feel free to check mine out š¤
1 gillaJust depends sometimes I think of names right away and sometimes it takes forever. Iāve had my asparagus fern for close to 2 years now and JUST named her. (Weekend at Fernnyās) But I named my Ring of Fire (Mordor) the day I brought it home. Sometimes they come quickly and others take time!
