An update on my little Algeonema cutting!!! She’s been thriving with a little new growth, she’s got a few roots at the bottom. Is it time to plant in some soil? Or should I wait longer? I’m scared equally of rotting in the water and or shock

Definitely wait. Want to know a crazy trick to get roots to grow out faster? Put the cutting in a dark container with water watch how long the roots pop and if you have a potho plant put a cutting with it.

It needs more roots to increase the chance of success when planted in soil. Let the roots get at least 2 inches long before planting. Roots don’t readily rot in water like they do in soil if you keep the water clean of debris. Roots rotting from too much water in soil or a slow drying soil mixture is more prevalent because the rot promotes bacterial and fungal growth in the soil. Increase lighting, humidity and temperature to promote root growth. Fertilize with diluted fertilizer whenever the roots appear. Continue fertilizing with each water change. Adding a liquid rooting hormone can promote new growth. I also add rooting hormone products when I transfer to soil. 🪴🍀

Thank you (as always ) for your kind and considered response!!! I will hold off for a little bit. Nice to know the rotting won’t happen anytime soon. I’m just worried it’s been a few months but glad to see some progress. I’ll be patient. I change the water every week and do add fertiliser. (I dipped the cutting in root powder when I put it first in water. Would you recommend more?

Try giving more light if you already added rooting hormone two months ago and only got a small amount of roots. Add a pothos cutting per Mardel’s suggestion. Pothos cuttings release rooting hormones.
