Grizz

I got Dave about a week ish ago. He sits in my window. I repotted him the day I got him since he was in a super small pot. I was wondering if this is ok for his leaves to do this or what I should do about it? He’s a spider plant

You think it could be shock adjusting to a new environment?

I kind of thought about that too. The tips already had a small amount of brown on them when I got him but it’s gotten worse over the past few days. There is a weeping ficus and a calathea medallion right next to him and they are thriving. Thank you for your input!! I appreciate it

Omgsh I have a weeping fig tree and a prayer plant too! They’re all in the same room also!

What are the chances of that?! That’s funny we both have the same plants in the same rooms. Humans are great.

Aweeeeee that’s the kindest comment I’ve seen! Yes, there are some good ones out there. I guess that’s why so many of us are on this app.

I have a spider plant that was looking really rough. Bent and yellowing leaves, crispy ends. It took a repot and a few months, but it really turned around.

Oh that’s awesome!! I’m super glad yours is doing well!! You also gave me a little hope for mine’s crusty brown ends. Thanks for your insight!!

I think he may be adjusting to a lower humidity level than he’s used to.

I’ve heard mixed reviews about it online; it seems like a hot topic but could misting him help a little or do you think he will overcome this dryer climate?

I think a tray with water and pebbles to keep the plant out of the water might help. But your best bet would be a cold mist humidifier. You can keep it on a lower setting all day directed in your plants vicinity and it won’t hurt a thing. You can get them online for about $30. Your plants, and possibly your sinuses will thank you! 👍

Perfect! I ordered one just now. Thank you for the recommendation! This is my first time owning plants and I was shocked at how much better my air in my room was not even 24 hrs in. I’m sure a humidifier will do wonders for us too. Thanks again!

The plant is under stress adjusting to a new environment. It could be under stress if the temperatures dropped during transportation. Repotting adds more stress because the roots are disturbed and often damaged during the repotting. It takes a while to adjust to the repotting. Give it a few weeks to a month before doing anything else except watering, fertilizing and giving it bright indirect light. Add a humidifier if needed. It’s more effective than water trays and misting. 🪴🍀

Something spider plants don’t like is chlorine in tap water which can cause brown tips. Spider plants are one of those annoying Evian plants so try giving Dave a drink of distilled water/ rain water. Where I live in the UK we have endless humidity in our homes so I have a dehumidifier and use that to collect distilled water from the air and pour that on my plants. The fussy ones seem to like it so far 🤷🏻‍♀️

I didn’t even think about that! We live on a well in the middle of farm land so we have all kinds of weird stuff in our natural occurring water. Thank you so much for that! Seriously never would have crossed my mind. Only filtered and distilled water for Dave from now on!
