Returning from Long Travel + Plantsitting— What Do You Do? Ok y’all— my plants need some TLC, some of them need to be outright resuscitated, and I am setting aside all day Saturday to bring them back to life once and for all. (As much as one can anyway šŸ˜…šŸŒ±) Here’s the list of plants, problems, and what I believe the solutions might be: #1: The Roman Empire (monstera deliciosa my beloved)— I’ve had this poor child for almost a year and she’s been struggling for over half of it. Lower leaves are curling and drooping, yellow and eventually brown discoloration in many parts of the leaves, and has appeared for a while to be infested with mealybugs or some kind of pest along those lines. A couple leaves are doing fantastic (there’s a baby leaf with signs of some beautiful fenestration unfolding as we speak). I think it’s time to chop and prop but I’m scared she won’t bounce back if I do it wrong. I’ve tried neem oil and repotted once with all new dirt, rinsed off the roots and they looked fine, and have yet to give the poor little one a moss pole because I don’t want that to also be infestable material. Thoughts? Can she be saved? šŸ›ļøāš”ļøšŸ“ #2: Byzantium (boston fern)— this poor guy. This poor poor little guy. I left him at my apartment over the summer and had several people rotate watering responsibilities, but naturally this was not a thriving time for him since there were some irregular intervals between waterings. Mold in the top of the soil, leaves are looking a little crispy and brown. I think the solution here is repot and make sure I reset his water regimen so he’s not being traumatized in either direction. šŸ‘‘šŸŒ“šŸŽØPlease correct me though if i’m wrong because I very well might be lol #3: Truth, Justice and the American Way (tradescantia my beloved)— he’s mostly ok but very tall with a lot of leaves partially dried out, for the same reasons as the others. ^ His soil looks fine, he’s just unsightly at the moment. šŸ”®šŸŖšŸ Remove the brown leaves, chop and prop to fill him out more? #4: Juliet (golden pothos my poor tragic beauty)— I’ll cut to the chase, her dirt is MOLDY. And she’s lost a lot of leaves to underwatering-related crispiness. It’s been a hard time for miss juliet. Is there a mold solution that doesn’t require all new dirt? šŸ’ŽšŸ šŸŒŠ I know that’s a lot, so thanks for reading this far! How have you handled returning from travel and resuscitating neglected plants? Did you ever feel like your plants fully recovered? (Did they forgive you šŸ‘€)

I've never had a monstera, but would a metal trellis be a viable option instead of a moss pole? No chance of infestation, she'll get the support she needs, and you can get one with a pretty design if you want to go extra fancy. I agree with Crazy plant lady that the pothos should be repotted with fresh soil and a clean pot. I know it doesn't help now, but when I was gone for a couple weeks last year, I added our pet sitter as a caregiver here on the planta app. It helped her to keep everyone straight and despite her not having much plant experience, everyone was in relatively okay shape when I got home. The only issue we had was she overwatered my climbing aloe (she was in a nursery pot in a cache pot and water sat in the cache pot for like a week). It took about a year and a chop and prop, but she's recovering now!
