Hi all! I have this ficus that over time has dropped its bottom leaves. It hasn’t produced new leaves at the top in a while, but it’s in healthy condition (not root rot etc). I’ve seen people saying to cut the stem under the leaves and put the top bit in water for root to develop and the bottom stem will end up produced new leaves at the nodes. My question is, the bottom stem is a bit woody (as you can see in the picture). Could it still produce new leaves. What do you guys think :))

Woody just means it’s matured, nothing to be concerned about for new growth. I have better luck propping these in either sphagnum moss or directly into soil. The “rings” you see on the stem will be where new roots come from, I like to have at least 3-4 on my props to develop a solid root system. Make sure to let your prop callus over really well before putting it into your medium. Your mother plant will put out new growth from (usually) one or two of its upper growth points.

nothing to worry about! it happens as they get taller, it's the plant stabilizing itself. still perfectly good for propagating. i've propagated completely bare ficus stem cuttings and they'll sprout multiple branches at once after a good trim. ficus are pretty easy to propagate. as long as you have a cutting that's about 6in long, you'll probably succeed, even if it's completely bare. you could probably get two cuttings out of this and turn one plant into three!
