So I just bought this plant. Normally I wait at least a week before repotting but Iā€™m worried about this one. Iā€™m not positive but I donā€™t think itā€™s retaining water. Should I go ahead and repot it.

    i always repot right away. A week isnā€™t enough time for a plant to ā€œadjustā€ anyway and itā€™s best to just get all the stressful ish out of the way at once imo ā€” and you can get eyes on the full picture & control your substrate. This hasnā€™t failed me yet. The only case I might discourage this is for a diva plant like a FLF

    Iā€™d say itā€™s safe to repot, especially if youā€™re looking to give the plant a chunkier mix. If thatā€™s a dieffenbachia or aglaonema, theyā€™re quite hardy plants, and less likely of serious shock from a transition between pots or soil. Iā€™d say size wise the pot looks good, so make sure it has good drainage holes and hopefully the ceramic pot covering it is just a cover and not a self watering one. If itā€™s a self watering pot, I would repot it in a regular one. Hope this helps!

      Oh thank god šŸ˜‚ noticed in your bio that you said youā€™re a new plant parent, so I just wanted to double check. As for soil mixes, I highly recommend Espomaā€™s Organic All-Purpose mix for a base, and Iā€™ve heard great things about FoxFarmā€™s Ocean Forest Soil Mix. It looks like the current mix has a lot of peat moss, so using either brand as a base (please please please avoid miracle grow soil), then mixing it with orchid bark and some perlite will give it better drainage. Sometimes I mix a bit of Espomaā€™s Cactus and Succulent soil with their All-Purpose Mix to add the perlite and wood chips I need for better drainage.
