Hey! I rescued this calathea a few months back from Walmart, but the edges keep getting crispy and the leaves are very droopy and I’m not sure why. I have it with a humidifier and also water regularly. Any ideas as to what could be going on? I just repotted it to check for root rot and it didn’t have any.

Winter. And it’s a calathea. 😂 put it outside during the summer where it doesn’t get sun on its leaves and it’ll absolutely flourish. It still looks pretty great.

what kind of water are u using? if its tap, and you are in an area with hard water, it could be that. caletheas are sentisive to the chemicals (and i think extra minerals) in tap, so i water with rain or distilled! you can also use reverse osmosis if you have it available!! good luck!

Yes you can use water conditioning drops (like you’d use for fish) for tap water

Couple things here: 1. This type of calathea isn’t a vining plants, so it doesn’t need a coco coir pole. You’re better off addressing the cause of why the leaves are dropping instead of using the coco coir pole as a support crutch. 2. I agree with C.cat’s comment on water type. Recommend switching to rain, distilled or tap water treated with aquarium conditioner. 3. Does the pot have drainage? What kind of potting medium is it in? Hard to tell from the picture, but the soil looks pretty dense. How long does it stay wet after watering? Calatheas do well in a fast-draining, chunky mix. Potting soil mixed with coarse perlite/pumice/small orchid bark/cactus soil. Any of these will increase aeration and help with water drainage. 4. How much light does it get? 5. Any signs of pests?
