   There are small hairs inside the trap. Those being stimulated is what triggers the trap to close (usually by a bug crawling through).

   Pink inside the trap is really only a factor of cultivar type. Like was said, the traps closing have to do with triggering the tiny hair inside the trap. If you're setting un-alived food in the trap, it won't often trigger, it needs to move. Which you can simulate with something small like a toothpick. Keep in mind the trap have a trigger life, usually 3x
