Pls help!! I took home this homalomena about two weeks ago. I realize all the other leaves are white and my one green leaf is going to be fighting for them all. The soil has stayed wet/moist until around today, it’s slightly damp about maybe two inches down. It had a little bit of a smell a day or two ago but now it does not. I understand the plant may be in shock from transporting, but I really love this plant (not to mention expensive) and whatever I can do, please let me know!! Right now it’s about a foot from my barrina t10 vertical light and by my west facing window. Can I water it? Any advice is appreciated, thank you 💚

Appreciate you! I thought that as well but everything seems to be more normal now so I was confused. I just want this baby to pull through!

I’ve had a lot of luck adding a 1:4 ratio of hydrogen peroxide to my water to boost oxygen to the roots, but then be sure to monitor that the soil is drying out by gently aerating with a chopstick

I’ve never been brave enough to try alcohol or hydrogen peroxide on my plants when they’ve had root rot, but many plants have come home from the store with some root rot. They just keep them soaking wet and they look nice like that for weeks before the rot happens - right about the time I buy them, apparently. Suggestions (super-basic): -when you repot, remove all of the soggy soil that it might have come in from the store and gently pull off the rotten / soggy roots. If they’re rotten, they will pull off easily. I even rinse them off with water so I can see how they are if there’s a lot of root rot. -make sure the soil is chunky soil with 50% potting soil and in 50% a combination of perlite and orchid bark. -personally, I have moisture indicator sticks in all of my plants and when they turn white, I know they need water. I double check with my finger when it turns white. -I fertilize my plants according to the fertilizer directions. -they are either in a window or under a grow light, and many prefer the grow light. Don’t give up. Expect it to look half dead for two months. Then it will reward you with a growing healthy plant surprise!
