I got three new plants this past weekend to add to my starter collection. However, I am not sure when I should repot them or what kind of soil I'll need.

    In my experience you’re going to need a LOT more light for that orchid. Mine are in a west facing bay window. (Northern Ohio though). Make sure they can see the sky. The potting medium should be small size Orchid bark. Whatever you do don’t water with ice cubes like the tags sometimes say. 😬 I only have one snake plant and it likes to get dry between watering but can handle a lot lower light. I have mine in a chunky mix.

      See, that's what I've been doing- putting ice cubes in my orchids- so I'm trying to do something different. But thank you so much!

      When I water my orchids I completely soak the bark and root ball for about 30 minutes or so then let it drip dry and place into a cover pot. Then soak again when the roots look silvery. Use room temp water, not cold.

      Also, avoid self-watering pots for the snake plants. Hope this helps 😊

    Some look to be in clear pots.. keep an eye on your roots. They’ll let you know when it’s time for a new pot. For new pots, go up 2-3 inches in size. Snake plants take their time. Cant speak for orchids

    The best time to repot orchids is after they drop their flowers, ideally when you see new root growth starting. Use orchid bark (for phalaenopsis, I use medium size chunks. You can mix in some sphagnum or finer chunk bark if you need more moisture retention). Soak the roots in room temperature water for 20 minutes to an hour to help make them flexible. Remove any weird packing materials from the nursery (plastic cage pots, spongey peat nursery plugs, densely packed sphagnum, rubber bands, etc). If it was in a lot of peat or sphagnum, you'll want to add at least a little sphagnum to the bark mix to help it adjust. Make sure the crown (where all the leaves meet) sits above the bark so it won't get wet when you water.

      And here's some photos to help assess root health. Trim away dead or sick roots. Try not to damage any healthy roots; orchids really don't like root damage
