Friend has this tree in his yard and cannot figure out what it is. Any ideas?

    Catalpa tree. One of my favorites! I have one in my yard that’s about 35 years old. Easy to grow from the seeds in the pods. They have orchid like flowers in early spring.

      Are they used for anything? I have one in much backyard and it would be awesome to know it does something cool.

      Not that I know of. Mine drops all its leaves by Halloween and it looks scary at night because of the short branches that look like bony fingers.

      Catalpa pods (minus the seeds) are frequently used in black water aquariums for the tannins

      The pods do stain my driveway and sidewalk! I understand why they use it for dyes!

    Seeds when dried , pop on the cement like pop rock fireworks .
